Hello everyone, I'm Oddly Even and I'm new to Steemit, so please bear with me as I learn how to navigate this new platform. I'm a career professional and had previously used Facebook to post all my comedic content, jokes, street art from around San Francisco, where I've lived for 11 years. Now Facebook has frozen my account, causing me to lose all my followers and previous content. This is the fourth time it's happened. I've tried Instagram and Twitter, but FB was my main platform. Now, they're again asking me for my personal ID to change my name from Oddly Even. Which I've been using over 2 decades. I use this moniker because I'm a professional engineer and don't want coworkers to see and report my content, which can be edgy and not politically correct. (Like most good comedy). Anyways, sorry for the long intro, just wanted to explain my story and say hello to everyone as I start out a new adventure, cutting the FB umbilical and using Steemit from now on. Thanks for having me and I hope you return to follow my content. Thank you!

Hey there! Welcome! I’m sorry to hear about your issues with FB, and it seems to be happening more and more. I’m glad you’ve found the censorship resistant Steem here 🙂
Ignore all these automated welcome messages, the goal is to help you find your community.. but I swear there are real people here too 😁
The key here is to go out and engage on other individuals posts who have the same interests, which helps you find your following as well.
Lots of chatting/learning/networking happens on discord too, as we don’t have an on Steem chat quite yet. Midlet can probably point you in the right direction for those if you are interested.

Anyway, all I know is that newcomers who actually took the time to read my comment are very happy with it. I still believe a directory is the best way to give newcomers a good start on this platform...
Of course it's easier to flag away without reading...
I did read it and I see it on every introduction post. It’s not unique to the author and while I do understand automation is needed here to keep up with it all, these feel like a cheap sales pitch.
Thank you for explaining that you are in fact a real person behind the comment just using automation to help cover more ground. I removed the flag. But still, 10 well intentioned comments directly new comers to projects or websites is very much spammy and I would argue it’s not beneficial.

I'm just trying to give newcomers a starting point when arriving here. When I first started I wished someone told me who to check out first to make the first days/weeks a bit interesting. Because let's be honest, when you're new here it are not the most interesting posts you see in the feed...
And yes, automation seems the most appropriate way to point people to the directory. I spent a lot of time on steemit… but I still didn't discover a way to be here 24/7...
Anyway, thanks again for the constructive comment and I hope you will at least take a look at the directory and tell me what you think about it...

Good to see you moving to STEEM. It can take a while to get settled in and find your way but there is a great community of users here. Feel free to ask questions and make sure to engage. It's the best way to get moving on here and start building up a good following.

Haha, I live in south San Jose, and yes, Fakeb.. I mean Facebook's time is almost up; I'm not quite on the same level that you are in that my profession doesn't depend on them.
Well no matter what, we sincerely hope you find all that you are looking for here, and have found a new home here.
Six suggestions:
1. guard your passwords carefully, and only post with the posting key,
2. only use your active key for wallet transactions,
3. Master password is only for resetting new passwords,
4. do NOT lose your passwords; copy and store off line,
5. Don't post other people's work, whether photos or written without credit, and
6. when you open up your steemit.com, up in the upper right corner of the page is 3 bars. Click on those, and then on the "welcome", and you will get a whole lot of reading material that will help you.
I found you because @xcountytravelers and @brittandjosie of @heyhaveyamet featured and promoted your post to get more exposure and help you grow quicker.
