Allow me to I myself
Hey steemians thanks for stopping by my intro. I was originally looking for an alternative to Facebook but I'm excited for what this new platform could bring even more.
A little about myself: I'm from a rural part of central USA. I have more hobbies then I can count but the big ones being blacksmithing, wood working, and whatever science experiment I can wrangle. I also enjoy restoring old tools and machinery.
In addition to my hobbies I also attempt to homestead. I rotate through what animals and food I grow but one of the staples on the homestead has been chickens. I hope to branch off some and raise goats for dairy sometime this year or next. Let me know if you have a sweet science experiment or a cool wood or metal project for me to work on

The official FAQ can be found here and has A LOT of information https://steemit.com/faq.html - Also remember, Steemit is just ONE of the sites built that uses Steem the blockchain. You should also check out DTube and DSound for starters and if you're a gamer, Steem Monsters! There are many other cool apps but I can't list them all here, there's just too many! But I'd also like to mention Steempeak, it's a better blogging platform that has a lot of cool features. Welcome to the blockchain! :) Oh, and if you're interested in creating your own tokens or smart contracts, check Steem engine!

Here a few tips for starters since you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?
Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.
