True faith in Jesus: Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:6

The apostle most beloved by Jesus not only wrote a gospel, but also three beautiful letters to prevent Christians living in Asia Minor during the first century AD from falling into heresy. In other words, the First Letter of John is written with the intention of teaching the meaning of the true faith in Jesus, and in particular, what life in God's grace consists of, and more precisely, how to love as Jesus loved. This is no small matter, since during the first century AD, differences among Christians about whether or not to practice the law of Moses almost led the early Church to a religious schism. Since there were no written gospels during the early church, confusion about the true teaching was frequent, and the epistles were the first known written texts of the New Testament.
And the apostle John in his epistle emphasized the new commandment, the commandment of love. But it must be understood that in John's thought the commandment of love is not an imperative or an order, but an ideal to which every baptized person should aspire in imitation of Christ, and this is because the love of God is a grace, a gift from above. According to John, the example of Christ's life and how that example is put into practice is what determines whether a believer is a true Christian or not; that is why John wrote: "Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did" 1 John 2:6.
And according to the teachings of John, this commandment of love is something very concrete, and so the apostle, with wisdom, explained: "Those who love other believers live in the light. Nothing will destroy the faith of those who live in the light" 1 John 2:10. Love as a gift from above is therefore an expansive, progressive, benevolent, and edifying love. The apostle John taught then that the practice of this spiritual love in daily life is the concrete expression of that faith which must bear fruits of life, because whoever makes error a habit or a custom does not belong to Christ. A love that should lead every Christian to the true promise, no longer of a land like Israel in the Old Testament, but to the promise of eternal life, the contemplative life.
