BE ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING
Monday 27
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)
Read: Philippians 4:2–7
Anxiety will not bring a change in whatever you are passing through. Whoever will experience a true change in his situation or circumstance would have to be committed to prayer and supplication (Ephesians 6:18). You start your prayer with thanksgiving and also wrap it up with thanksgiving (Psalm 100:4).
Prayer should not be a rigid pattern to be followed in talking to God. Prayer should be spontaneous–what you do unconsciously.
You would not need any special preparation before you talk to God, being your Father. You should cultivate the habit of conversing with God as you go about your daily activities. You may not necessarily need to wait until you get to a secluded place before you can talk to God. Although at times you may need to take time out and separate yourself in order to seek God’s face, the true fellowship with God entails conversational prayer as you go about your daily activities.
The word supplication is about pleading or appealing or imploring or begging for something to be done. Truly God is the Father of whoever confesses Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour, but in some situations, you would have to plead or supplicate before what you want could be gotten. In fact, some supplications could be for a while, a period of time before you could get an answer. Note: supplication could either be for you, for another person or for a group of people.
• Talk to God on the go.
• Let God be in your sleeping and waking thoughts.
• Let God be part of everything you are doing.
• Let God be part of every decision you are making.
A believer who lives as being shared here is the one who is walking in fellowship or communion with God. A believer who walks thus would not find it difficult to hear God and know His mind about things that pertain to him and others. Living such a life builds cordiality between the believer and God.
Every request or whatever is going on in your heart should be made known to God. When you live as being shared here, God will be quick to attend to your case and the secret things will always be made known to you (Psalm 25:14). God wants every believer to live such a life!
Reflect:
• What are the areas of your life that are most prone to anxiety?
• How conversational is your relationship with God?
