HOW SHALL I KNOW THIS?

“And zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” Luke 1:18 (NKJV)

Unbelief or doubt displeases God, it is only faith that pleases Him (Hebrews 11:6). We could see here that Zechariah, in his statement or response to the Angel, had doubt or Unbelief in his heart. That was the reason why the angel had to mute his voice, so that he would not use his unbelieving statements to hinder or abort what God had intended and purposed to do.

Do not speak negatively against what God intended to do in your life; you may abort it through Unbelieving words.

Unbelief: speaking or saying things that are not in line or consistent with the Word of God—what God has said about your life and situation—would abort His plan for your life.

A believer should discipline himself or herself in talking and fill their mouths with wholesome words that are in line with the Bible—God’s Word. This is possible by feasting on the Word of God, and your mind being well fed; saturated and preoccupied, with the Word of God.

Mary in her own case responded to the Angel positively: “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45 NKJV).

What are you saying concerning your situation? Are your words consistent with what God has spoken about your life? Are your words affirming or refuting the Word spoken by God about your life?

Meditate or ponder on these: “A [good] man enjoys good as A result of what he says, but the essence of the treacherous is violence” (Proverbs 13:2 Complete Jewish Bible).
“For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:37 (NKJV)
