HUMBLE YOURSELF
Sunday 02
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6 (NKJV)
Read: James 4:7-10;
1 Peter 5:5-11 Exaltation by God is preceded by your humbleness. It is when you are humble under the mighty hand of God that you would be considered for exaltation or lifting.
It should be noted that it is not only humbleness that should be considered in the passage, but the timing also. It is said in the passage that you will be exalted in due time, even with humbleness.
Someone who is humble under God’s mighty hand will not be in a hurry. Such will be patient enough to wait for the due time of God to be lifted. There is a due time for every believer after a period of waiting. In addition, the next verse, 1 Peter 5:7: “Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you!”
In other words, as you are waiting, you should learn to cast your care upon God, because He cares for you. Do not allow anxiety as you are waiting in humbleness. You cannot through anxiousness make things happen in your life: “And which of you by being anxious can add A single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27 ESV) “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NKJV)
Some believers would always go back to God to collect what they have committed to His care, through anxiousness.
God is Spirit, thus, you may not literally go before God, demanding to collect back the problems you have committed to His hands for help to be solved. However, the moment you start to plan and strategize on how to get the problem solved in your own way, and according to your own discretion; you have collected it back from God.
And if you collected back the problem you earlier committed to God’s hand, you might be left alone and be allowed to get it done or solved in your own way, but that would not be without a regrettable repercussion.
Reflect:
- Where in your life are you struggling to wait on God’s timing instead of pushing for your own?
- Is there a care or burden you’ve given to God that you’ve quietly taken back through worry?
Peace.
