LET THE OTHERS JUDGE

MONDAY 03

“Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.” 1 Corinthians 14:29 (NKJV)
Read: 1 Corinthians 14:26-40

Prophecy can be judged According to our text, the Bible. There are people who would not want their prophecies to be judged, that is a sign of immaturity. If you are truly speaking by the Spirit of God, let others judge what you have said whether it is of God or not.

Whoever prophesies by God’s Spirit should not be afraid of his prophecy being judged by others. Remember, you judge the prophecy and not the person who prophesied.

And those who will judge a prophecy should be those who are knowledgeable in the operations of the gifts of the Spirit. Someone who had no experience in the operations of the Holy Spirit and His gifts cannot judge prophecies.

The others who are said to judge in the passage of our text are other believers in the meeting, especially those who have the understanding of the operations of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:29).

It is also said in the passage that the number of persons to be allowed to speak by prophecy in a meeting should be two or three. This was said because of orderliness.

When everybody is allowed to speak as they want, there may be rowdiness, chaos or disorder in the meeting. Since God who works through the Holy Spirit is not an author of confusion, He would not want that in a meeting. There must be order in a meeting where the Holy Spirit is operating.

• One of the standards through which a prophecy could be judged is that the prophecy should be in line with the written word.
• And if the prophecy is predictive, the life of the person who gives the prophecy should be considered; Does the person pass the fruit test? (Matthew 7:18). In other words, does the life of the person show that he is of God?
• Another thing is that the prophecy should not break the spirit of the meeting.

What does this mean? It means after a prophecy is given, the message should not bring gloominess into the meeting–it should not dampen the spirit of the people in the meeting. The prophecy should rather bring edification, and exhortation, and comfort–a kind of lifting or encouragement and enthusiasm (1 Corinthians 14:4).

If people were discouraged or despondent and despaired before the prophecy; the prophecy should exhort, and stir the spirit of the people. It should comfort them, and renew their spirit for edification.

If there is anyone in the meeting contemplating of not coming for the subsequent meetings, such would be reinvigorated by the prophecy and be willing to come for another meeting and be steadfast in the faith. Any prophecy that does not fulfil the three main purposes of prophecy according to the Scripture, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:3, is doubted to be truly from God. Peace.
