WHERE YOUR TRASURE IS

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34 (NKJV)

Jesus in this passage says where your treasure is, there your heart will be. This bears down to what you consider as treasure. If the things of the Spirit are your treasures, your heart will be there. However, if the things of the flesh or the things of the world or material things are your treasures, your heart will also be on them.
Your treasure as a believer should be the things of the kingdom (Matthew 6:33; Luke 12:29–31). Value whatever will contribute to the increase and expansion of God’s kingdom (Luke 12:21). Value the things of the Spirit. Things of the Spirit will produce the material things you need (1 Timothy 4:8).
The wisdom is: if you pursue and value spiritual things, other things or material things will not be difficult to get: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
Not only that, but you also have the benefit of being blessed with both eternal things and material things: “For bodily exercise profits A little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”1 Timothy 4:8 (NKJV)
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness (spiritual training) is of value in everything and in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come .” 1 Timothy 4:8 (Amps.)
Now, how do you provide treasures for yourself in heaven? In the preceding verse before our text, Luke 12:33, the Bible says: “Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, A treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.”
We could see through this passage that a treasure is gotten in heaven through what you do with material things which you are blessed with by God. When you give alms, you are providing yourself money bags, a treasure in heaven that does not fail. By helping the poor and the needy, you are providing a treasure in heaven for yourself (Luke 12:33).
When you use your time and gifts for the propagation of the gospel and the expansion of God’s kingdom on earth, you are providing treasures for yourself in heaven. When you are rich in good works–ready to give and willing to share–you are storing for yourself a good foundation for the time to come (1 Timothy 6:17–19).
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves A good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NKJV)
