Spring Splendor: Visiting Keukenhof Before May 10

in #keukenhof9 days ago

The window to experience the world's most famous flower garden is narrowing. Keukenhof, located in Lisse, remains open this season until May 10. Known as the "Garden of Europe," this massive park offers a fleeting but spectacular display of millions of blooming bulbs that define the Dutch spring.

What to See: A Symphony of Blooms

While tulips are the primary draw, the park features a diverse array of flora arranged in meticulously designed themed gardens and pavilions.

  • Tulips: Over 800 varieties, ranging from classic reds to exotic fringed and parrot tulips.
  • Hyacinths and Daffodils: These provide the iconic spring scent that fills the park.
  • Orchids and Anthuriums: Found in the Beatrix Pavilion, offering a tropical contrast to the outdoor bulb gardens.
  • Lilies: Displayed in the Willem-Alexander Pavilion towards the end of the season.

Activities at the Park

Keukenhof is designed to be an immersive experience beyond just walking the paths.

Whisper Boat Trips

One of the most popular ways to see the surrounding bulb fields is by taking a whisper boat (fluisterboot). These electrically propelled boats navigate the shallow canals around the park, offering a quiet, water-level view of the endless rows of flowers stretching toward the horizon.

Cycling the Bulb Region

While you cannot bike inside the gardens, there are bicycle rentals available at the main entrance. You can follow marked "Bollenstreek" routes to see the commercial flower fields that surround the park.

The Historical Windmill

You can climb the park’s authentic 19th-century windmill for a panoramic view of the flower mosaics and the surrounding countryside.

Only Coming to Amsterdam?

If your itinerary is restricted to the capital, you can still participate in the festivities. Amsterdam hosts its own city-wide floral programs during this period, with displays at various museums, public squares, and bridge crossings.
