After the scorching sun of Jaishthi, at the beginning of Ashadh, the king of fruits, mango, brings a festive atmosphere to every Bengali household. Whenever you go to the market, you see a colorful and delicious mango collection. The image of an ever-familiar summer or rainy season market emerges, where raw and ripe mangoes are arranged in rows.

Mangoes are beautifully stacked in large baskets. The baskets at the back contain dark green raw or raw mangoes, which are used to make mouth-watering pickles, chutneys or dal. On the other hand, the baskets in front are adorned with ripe mangoes of yellow and partially green color, indicating ripeness. The sweet aroma and juicy taste of these ripe mangoes are extremely popular with everyone, young and old. Langra, Gopalbhog, Himsagar or Fazli—all varieties of mangoes have their own characteristics.

Mango is not only incomparable in taste, it is also rich in nutrients. It contains a lot of vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium, which helps in increasing the body's immunity. At this juncture of summer and monsoon, such fresh mangoes remind us of the richness of Bengal's fruit diversity. The presence of this king of fruits in the market adds an indescribable joy to the Bengali diet every year.
