Increasing Cost of Fuel in the UAE this Year (January - August 2026)
The price of fuel in the UAE is set on monthly basis by the UAE Fuel Price Committee which releases the prices of the different types of vehicle fuel for the next month on the last day of the current month.
Types of fuel priced by the committee include Super 98, Special 95, E-Plus 91, and Diesel. On average, most motorists use the Special 95, owners of more luxurious the car prefer using the Super 98.
Since the regional conflict started, the cost of living has increased in general, most notably in the price of fuel. I looked up the price of Special 95, which I use for my car, since the beginning of the year and you can see the sharp increase which eased a little last month only to climb up again this month (August):
Special 95 petrol rates peaked at AED 3.83 per litre in June before seeing a sharp drop in July, followed by a slight increase in August. [1]
The monthly rates for Special 95 per litre across the United Arab Emirates (including Dubai) from January through August 2026 are structured as follows:
| Month (2026) | Special 95 Rate (per Litre in AED) | Special 95 Rate (per Litre in USD) | Monthly Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| August | AED 3.49 | $0.95 | Up 20 fils |
| July | AED 3.29 | $0.90 | Down 54 fils |
| June | AED 3.83 | $1.04 | Up 28 fils |
| May | AED 3.55 | $0.97 | Up 27 fils |
| April | AED 3.28 | $0.89 | Up 80 fils |
| March | AED 2.48 | $0.68 | Up 15 fils |
| February | AED 2.33 | $0.63 | Down 9 fils |
| January | AED 2.42 | $0.66 | Down 16 fils |
January to August the prices went up from AED 2.42 ($ 0.66) / Litre to AED 3.49 ($ 0.95), a 44% increase!

The price overall was going down in the beginning of the year and it was affordable, somehow, now I am rationalizing my trips in the car.
I remember it was half that price when I was there!
