Wisdom and communion in Jesus: If we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other. 1 John 1:7.

The First Epistle of John is an epistle of the New Testament attributed to the apostle most beloved by Jesus. And there is something very mysterious about this apostle. Despite the importance of his writings, John is credited also with the authorship of the Book of Revelation; this apostle did not achieve the same prominence as Paul and Peter as leaders of the Church, according to the Book of Acts. John's life is shrouded in mystery, like all his thinking.
In his first letter addressed to the various churches of Asia Minor, where he was known, the apostle continued with some ideas from the Gospel of the same name. The letter affirms the concepts that God is light and love, and that in order to access that mystical knowledge of the truth that is Christ, each Christian, through the gift of faith, must live in these perfections of God.
These explanations of John have a very deep spiritual meaning within the Christian faith. Jesus himself said that no one can walk in darkness; men can only make their way in life when there is light. Put another way, the concept of light in the gospel of God is a metaphor for the science of God, because it is with this science, wisdom, that men can grow spiritually and through a new birth, not according to the flesh but according to the spirit, access to that true life which is the gift of eternal life, the contemplative life. Understanding this is to grasp the spiritual core of John's doctrine; this apostle always emphasized in his writings the need to be born again.
And John was very clear about one thing: love of neighbor, wisdom, and communion are spiritual gifts that always go together. Or, to put it another way, according to John's thinking, those who live in the light of God love their neighbor and are in communion with one another. This is how, according to John, a true Christian is recognized, a true imitator and emulator of the Lord Jesus. Life in God's grace is therefore a great Christian requirement; that is why the apostle John, referring to this new life, wrote: "If we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other" 1 John 1:7. Seeking light, perfection, and knowledge is then the beginning of achieving that life in common with our brothers and the Lord.
