Machado: a Nobel Prize for the Will to War?
In the end Donald couldn't take home the Nobel Peace Prize, despite ending 8 wars! 🙈
Too bad for him, maybe they will give it to him when he ends the war in Ukraine..
Although he didn't win the prestigious award, however, Trump was awarded indirectly. Except peace doesn’t have much to do with it, watch out.
This is, more than anything, a prize for the imperialist and interventionist politics of the United States towards Latin America, which sinks its roots in the so-called "Monroe doctrine" and which Trump has carried forward very aggressively in recent months. Just look at the sanctions and military pressure exerted against Venezuela, sending warships close to the Venezuelan coasts, justifying it as an anti-narcotics operation against the (ghostly) "Los Soles cartel". 🌞
And who supported the goodness of this operation? But yes, she is, the award-winning Maria Corina Machado! That is, in practice, he applauded the sinking with missiles, in international waters, of boats with not better specified men on board, without providing any evidence that they were drug traffickers!
But let’s look back at the actions that earned our heroine the coveted Prize:
- In 2002 she was involved in the attempted coup against the Chávez government being among the signatories of the Carmona decree, in an attempt to dissolve the National Assembly, suspend the Constitution and expel the judges of the Supreme Court.
- Always in 2002, he is among the founders of Sumate, an NGO for the promotion of democracy, funded by the American entity National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which also financed other groups and organizations of the Venezuelan opposition.
- In 2004, Sumate contributed to organizing a referendum to ask for the impeachment of Hugo Chávez, which however failed miserably.
-In 2005 Machado, who became a leading figure of the Venezuelan opposition in the USA, was received by the then President of the United States, George W. Bush at the White House. - She was formally accused in 2014 of preparing a coup and assassination plan against President Nicolás Maduro
- After the 2024 presidential elections, a criminal investigation has been opened against Machado, for conspiracy, incitement to insurgency and disobedience of laws
- She has always been a supporter of a neoliberal economic policy, based on a plan of driven privatization, especially in the oil sector and for the benefit of American multinationals
- Over the years he has often supported the need for strong international pressure on his own country, including sanctions (which have severely affected the civilian population) and a military intervention, as the only way to overthrow the "narco-terrorist regime" of Maduro.
Not exactly what you'd expect from a Nobel Peace Prize!
Of course, the prize in the past was also given to figures like Kissinger and Obama, who weren’t really peace makers in the world!
La Machado has always referred to the United States above all, but not only.
He also has close relations with Israeli President Netanyahu, to whom in 2018 he sent a letter asking him to exert his influence and pressure against the Maduro government. Obviously Machado has never failed to support Israel, even during the Gaza genocide.
More recently, the network of its international relations has also included Argentine President Milei, who is also a great supporter of the Machado cause, with whom he shares ultra-liberal ideas and subjugation towards Washington and its oligarchies.
The Machado prize, especially at this particular moment, risks being, and probably already is (seeing what is happening in the Caribbean) an incentive for Trump to bring down, certainly not by peaceful and democratic methods, the legitimate Venezuelan government. That is, in fact, a reward for the will to war.
