The Tragic Toll on Nepali Mountaineering

Nepal suffered a devastating loss in the global mountaineering community following a massive avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak in late July 2026. The tragedy claimed the lives of 10 climbers, including world-renowned record-breaker Nirmal Purja (Nimsdai) and five other elite Nepali high-altitude mountain guides.


The late-July avalanche on Broad Peak resulted in a profound loss of a record-breaking generation of elite Nepali mountaineers. Alongside Nirmal Purja, the disaster claimed the lives of highly accomplished guides and record-holders who were pillars of the global climbing industry.
