Let's make something interesting. Not your regular street food, this used to be a special recipe for my friends and I back in school days so I thought of something different that could go for this challenge and the idea came up, so why not???

Task 1: Preparation (3 marks)
Prepare your culture’s street food. Show clear steps of your ingredients and cooking process.

For the ingredients we have;

• Flour
• Egg
• Sugar
• Baking powder
• Water

• In a bowl, add your flour and then continue to add baking powder which is your dry ingredients. Mix properly and set aside.

• Add your egg which is wet ingredient and mix properly with your hands until well combined.

• Then add your melted sugar and water and combine properly.

• Now mold the balls in a flat way or to your own desired shape and sprinkle some flour to avoid sticky.

• In a neat pan, add your frying oil and allow to heat up, then add the balls slowly and fry on low heat.

• Flip over the other side and allow to fry well. Continue the process until you have covered them all.

What lifestyle does this street food represent and How affordable and accessible is it? What is the cultural importance of this street food and why it is widely consumed in your culture?

“Golden Flats” represents a simple, hardworking lifestyle. It shows the everyday life of people who enjoy quick and comforting meals that can be prepared easily at home or sold on the streets. It also represents creativity, yes because it is made from common ingredients that many already have. The snack fits busy lifestyles, especially for students, workers, and families looking for quick and affordable food that still feels satisfying.

For accessibility, I would say that “Golden flats” is very affordable and accessible because its ingredients; flour, eggs, sugar, baking powder, water, and little oil, are common in many homes and local markets. It does not require expensive equipment or special cooking skills, making it easy for almost anyone to prepare at home or sell on the street.

This street food reflects the culture of homemade and street-style snacks that bring togetherness. In many African homes, especially in Nigeria, simple fried snacks are part of daily life because they are filling, easy to share, and suitable for any time of the day. Does it reflect: Busy lifestyles? Economic realities? Community interaction? Explain its role in everyday culture.

“Golden Flats” shows nothing but a hardworking and practical way of life. It shows how people create simple but satisfying meals from affordable ingredients. The street food reflect busy lifestyles because it is quick to prepare, easy to eat, and perfect for workers, students, and families who need simple meals during the day.

It also reflects economic realities, especially in communities where people must manage resources carefully. Since the ingredients are easy to find, it becomes a food that many people can afford without sacrificing satisfaction.

At the same time, Golden Flats represents community interaction. Street foods often bring people together in markets, roadside shops, schools, and neighborhoods. People eat, sell, and share them while interacting socially. The food is more than just a snack.
