The Musical Journey of Ademola Adeleke: From Ibadan to the Global Stage
Ademola Adeleke, better known by his stage name Ademola, is a remarkable figure in today’s music landscape, seamlessly blending African tradition with contemporary sound. His journey from the bustling streets of Ibadan, Nigeria, to becoming a recognized name in the Afrobeat and world music scene is one of persistence, passion, and purpose.
Born in Ibadan, Adeleke’s early life was shaped by a rich cultural environment and a strong family foundation. Growing up with his parents and four siblings, he was exposed to the rhythms and traditions of Yoruba music. This early exposure laid the foundation for his fascination with African percussion, especially the talking drum, a signature element of his musical style today.
Adeleke’s formal education began at Fly Over Creche in Ibadan and continued through various primary and secondary schools. Alongside academics, his love for rhythm and music grew. However, it was not until much later in life that his musical talent would take center stage. Before fully venturing into music, Adeleke pursued diverse educational and professional paths, including Computer Education, Animal Production and Health, and even teaching in Cote d’Ivoire during the country’s civil unrest.
In 2014, Adeleke’s musical journey took a defining turn. He participated in a local music show and caught the attention of Lt. Commodore Tom, who encouraged him to join the Nigerian Army Band. As the band’s lead vocalist, Adeleke was introduced to formal music production and performance, significantly expanding his skills. This opportunity was not only his professional break but also a platform where his passion for blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary genres began to flourish.
Driven by the desire to empower others through music and culture, Adeleke founded two creative and philanthropic groups: Godly Things International and Everly Brothers International. These platforms allowed him to nurture talent, give back to communities, and further refine his identity as a music promoter and cultural ambassador.
Adeleke’s relocation to the United States marked a major leap in his career. There, he met Apostle Monica, a mentor and philanthropist, who inspired him to pursue music professionally under the stage name Ardykwait. In the U.S., Adeleke found renewed energy and creativity, immersing himself in the Afrobeat genre while incorporating elements of country and traditional African music. This innovative fusion became his hallmark sound, one that resonated with diverse audiences and distinguished him from his peers.
In 2023, Ardykwait gained widespread recognition with the release of his hit single “Love Overdose,” which surpassed 20,000 streams. The song’s unique blend of African percussion and romantic themes earned it acclaim, highlighting his ability to merge culture with commercial appeal. In 2024, he followed up with “Poporipo,” an upbeat romantic anthem filmed in Egypt, which further showcased his storytelling skills and cinematic vision.
Adeleke’s discography is as extensive as it is diverse, with over 50 singles, including “Only You,” “StarBoi,” “Hustler’s Prayer,” and “Believe.” Each track reflects his evolving artistry and deep connection to his roots. Whether celebrating loved ones or addressing broader societal themes, his music always carries a message of hope, identity, and resilience.
His efforts have not gone unnoticed. Adeleke has received numerous accolades, such as the Nations Rhythm Festival Award, MITV Award of Excellence, and the Star FM Award of Excellence, recognizing his contributions to Afrobeat and his role in promoting African culture on a global scale.
Beyond music, Ardykwait is also a writer, motivational speaker, and philanthropist. His life’s philosophy, rooted in perseverance, faith, and giving back is best captured in his quote: “Success is the best vengeance.” From Ibadan to international stages, Ademola Adeleke’s journey in the music industry is a shining example of how talent, culture, and determination can turn dreams into reality.
