Yes, every community, has places that are important to its people and visitors and I have this church The Basilica of Our Lady of Graces just 18 km away from my present location where I go as and when I find time especially on Sundays and for sure in the month of December whenever I am in India.

The church you see here is in Sardhana, India, is the famous church The Basilica of Our Lady of Graces. This church was built in 1822 by Begum the queen of Sardhna State in India, a dynamic courtesan-turned-ruler who commanded an army and converted to Christianity and mind you she was originally from a community known for dancing for money. The name is "The Church of Basilica "Our Lady of Graces"

This minor basilica draws pilgrims and explorers alike with its blend of Italian Renaissance grandeur and Indian influences. This church is has an architectural importance with its yellow-and-white building features Doric columns, three domes similar to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, and an octagonal dome flooding the interior with natural light.

Why do you think this place you have visited is a need-to-know place in your community?

What I loved most about the church was how it held a conversation between the crafted and the natural. Potted plants and simple floral arrangements softened the architecture’s edges, and the scent of polished wood and wax lent a human warmth to the cool stone. When a breeze slipped through an open door, it carried in distant sounds of the town.

Children’s laughter, and those outside noises folded into the sanctuary like a reminder that this place exists to be lived in, not merely admired. Visitors love its vaulted ceilings, marble altar adorned with colorful stones in floral patterns, and paths lined with statues depicting Christ's life.

But what attracts me most as a travel blogger is the life of Jesus Christ in statues scattered all over the church compound. I often visit this church as and when I am in India alone and with family and friends.

What services or activities are the people in your community or visitors enjoying or having access to at the place?

Sitting in a pew, I noticed other visitors moving slowly, their faces lit in the same gentle colors as the building. There was a shared hush that felt communal without being intrusive, a collective permission to pause. In that hush, the church’s beauty revealed itself not as an overwhelming spectacle but as an invitation: to breathe, to notice, to be quietly present. When I left, the calm didn’t leave with me; it settled into my stride, a subtle companion for the rest of the day.

The statues in the church compound add a calm, reflective beauty to the whole place. As I walked through the compound, I noticed how they seemed to guide my attention slowly and respectfully, almost like quiet companions along the path. The figures were not just decorative bu they gave the space a sense of devotion and stillness that matched the peaceful atmosphere around them. So I mostly focused on them as you can watch in the video everything is so amazing with a travelers point of view.

What stood out to me was the way the statues blended with the open grounds and the architecture. Some were set in visible spots where sunlight touched them softly, while others appeared more quietly in corners, creating little moments of surprise. Their forms, expressions, and placement made me slow down and observe more carefully. I felt that each statue had been placed with thought, so the compound would feel alive with meaning rather than empty or purely formal.

What do you find most attractive or interesting during your visit to the place?

I visited the church in Sardhana on an overcast afternoon in the past, and its presence felt like a gentle pause in the rush of life.

I am a regular to this church and whenever I approach the building, I get struck by its silhouette broad, dignified, and calm against the sky. Look at its facade, with its balanced proportions and soft, weathered stone, spoke of quiet confidence rather than spectacle.

It always invites me with a sense of welcome, as if the space itself knew how to steady a hurried mind. No matter what religion I follow or even if I follow no religions but visit all such places for their architectural beauty.

Inside, light became the church’s most eloquent element but photography is not permitted so I will show you from outside only.

The ceilings rose with a measured grace that made me feel small in the best possible way more aware of being part of something larger. You can see the curved arches and carefully carved details even from outside that catch my eyes every time I visit this church or walk toward the altar, as every element feels so pure, so closer to Him.

There was a restraint in the decoration that made the few highlighted features stand out for instance a tomb of the priest which provides information here, as each one resonant without competition.

Share a brief story that you know about the place you have visited

I can only say that Begum Samru's Basilica of Our Lady of Graces although not as shiny as in Italy or other European countries but matches other Italian influenced Indian colonial heritage sites in all their grandness and visual styling.

I was sitting with folded hands as watched through high windows and stained glass, the colors were gentle greens. The colored light gave everything a kind of hush, turning every stone into something that felt chosen and cared for. I found myself in the quiet geometry of light and shadow.

I also liked how the statues worked with the surrounding trees, pathways, and open areas. The contrast between the stone figures and the natural greenery made the compound feel balanced and serene. In that setting, the statues seemed to carry a peaceful message, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and take in the beauty around them.

For me, the statues were not only artistic features but also part of the soul of the place.
