SLC33-W1: My Community, My Story – A Need to Know Place Around Me

My community, my story is an interesting challenge, which I have chosen to take part in the challenge by sharing the road in my town that leads to my house and the places around.

What is the name of the place, community, and where is it located? Share the address information of the place also.

The name of this road is Ola Road, and the community is also called Ola Community, but the road extends from Ola down to Akpata Community and to other communities. This place is located in the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The road was constructed by the then Honourable Minister of Information and Defence, Labaran Maku, in 2015. Along the road, there are houses, shops, a hospital, Okada riders, and several others.

Why do you think this place you have visited is a need-to-know place in your community?

I think this place I have visited is a need-to-know place in my community because of what is in the place. In the whole of Akwanga, it is this place that has the good hospital, which is the Our Lady of Apostles Hospital, Ola. Also, in terms of schools and places of worship, it is this place that has the best, which I think is a need-to-know place in my community, for what it has.

If people knew this place, there would be more development in the place that I want my community to develop, and also a lot of people don't know that there is a standard hospital in my community, which, if they knew, they would have been coming down here for treatment rather than going to far places.

What services or activities are the people in your community or visitors enjoying or having access to at the place?

The people in my community, or visitors, are enjoying a lot of services for free, and even the ones that are not free. The people are enjoying the following services:

• Free Hospital care, treatment, and check-up from Ola hospital
• The good roads network, which everyone passes for free
• Tap water, which everyone is allowed to fetch from
• Fast internet network
• Standard schools.

What do you find most attractive or interesting during your visit to the place?

What I find most attractive during my visit to the place is the convent where the Reverend Sisters are staying. The place is usually locked, and since my staying in the community that I have been passing through this road, I have never seen the gate open. The gate is always closed with a tall fence and trees, which makes the place look beautiful.

Share a brief story that you know about the place you have visited.

One day, my friends and I were returning from school, and we saw some ripe mangoes inside the convent that was close to the fence. As we saw the mangoes, we then decided to go and cut some of them without throwing stones at them. As we walked closer, we had the someone shouted, "Who are those?" and immediately we ran away. It was the gateman who scared us away from trying to cut some mangoes.

Based on your story and community lifestyle, would you recommend this place to visitors? Why or why not?

Based on the community lifestyle, I would recommend this place to visitors because the place is a peaceful environment, there is good and stable internet, roads, hospitals, shops, and the people are friendly. A lot of people who were posted in this community as a corper are now staying here even after their service because they have found this place an interesting place to stay.
