SLC33-W3: My Community, My Story – Transportation in My Area

Transportation is very important as it transports people and goods from one place to another, and in my town, I do make use of transportation almost every day.

What is the common means of transportation in your community? Tell us, including the location of the transportation

I am staying close to a close environment, and as a student and having higher institutions around me, the common means of transportation in my community are: tricycles, motorcycles, and vehicles. These three are the common means of transportation that transport people from one place to another, especially within the school.

As seen in my photographs, the people putting on green clothes are the people who are allowed to enter the University, whereas those who aren't wearing green clothes can only run their transportation services outside the school premises and not inside the school. This place is the University of Lafia, and this transportation system is located in front of the school gate.

Which mode of transportation system do you use more often in your community and why?

I use tricycle the more because I always take it to school, and it is the cheapest means of transportation in my community. Motorcycles and vehicles are more expensive to enter than a tricycle.

Also, I do enter tricycle the more because I always go to school, market, and church which tricycle is the most convenient means of transportation for me to use. If I am going to school, it is a tricycle that I make use of as it is easier and cheaper compared to other means of transportation in my community.

How affordable, safe, and convenient is the transportation system in your community?

A tricycle is more affordable and cheaper in the school environment because it carries more than two passengers, carrying two passengers in front and three passengers behind, which makes it more convenient and cheaper. If you want to enter a motorcycle, you will pay more, but entering a tricycle to school, you will pay just ₦100, which is equivalent to 2.5 Steem. Also, it is safer in this rainy season to use.

Tell us the challenges that you and other commuters face with the transportation system and the improvements you would like to see.

The challenges that I and other commuters face with the transportation system are money and a lack of services from the transportation system owners, which often makes some of the transportation systems look unsafe for passengers to sit because of smoke and torn seats. The improvement is for every transporter to always service their motorcycle, vehicle, and tricycle so passengers can be comfortable.

What advice would you give to a visitor who is about to use the local transportation system in your community for the first time?

My advice to those who are about to use the local transportation system in my community for the first time is for them to ask the drivers and passengers their destination so they won't get lost on the way while going to places they haven't been before, and they should also verify prices before entering any transportation system in my community for the first time.

Review:
Students' environment is usually filled with such a transportation system because they are mostly for short distances and more affordable for students. I think the regulation of the transport system is to limit crime and unregistered transporters from entering the school and course problem in the school. Motorcycles are mainly for those who want to enjoy privacy. It is good to see the means of transportation in your community.

Good post. It is quite clear from your writing that CNG or tricycles are the most suitable means of transportation in the university area. Especially for students who commute daily, the rental aspect is a big issue. Hearing that you can go to the campus by tricycle for just 100 taka, it seems like this is really the best option within their budget. I found the dress code rule of the university authorities quite interesting and disciplined. Those who wear green clothes can enter the campus, while the rest stay outside—I think this kind of arrangement makes it much easier to control security and traffic inside the campus. However, the problem of unfit cars and the pathetic condition of the seats that you mentioned is really a matter of concern. Best wishes to you in this contest. 😊
