My Neighborhood Watch #155 - Reporting Events Around us||A ten year old boy suffers torture by guardians in Anambra state

When issues like domestic violence are raised, it is been treated as if is normal. This act of wickedness is becoming almost uncontrollable and because of this, it keeps happening. perpetrators of domestic violence seems to be going free without being met with the prescribed punishment.

People in awada obosi, in idemili North of Anambra state are expressing their anger over the torture of a ten year old house boy in the community by a woman and her husband. On Monday, people of the community has handed over the child to the office of the commissioner for women affairs and social welfare in Anambra state. The commissioner has taken up the custody of this young boy who has been critically injured with severe scars on his body.

As at the time of this report, the reason for this brutal injury is yet to made known as as the commissioner is still carrying out investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this inhuman treatment. The office of the commissioner has commenced treatment to save the child.

The unfortunate situation is that the couple have a very young children of about five years and three years respectively. The woman herself has been apprehended by the people for further questioning. Her husband's whereabouts is unknown after the incident. If not for the sake of the young child she is having, the people would stoned or beaten her to stupor for putting this little boy in this painful condition.

The woman with their little kid, is been paraded in the community by the villagers heading to make entry to the police for further action to be taken against her wicked act.

From the reports gathered, the woman and her husband used blade razor, kitchen knife and hot iron on the boy for unknown reasons.

What kind of offence may have the house boy committed to inflict this kind of injury? This shows that children are not protected. There are no strong laws that are made to protect children. Even where the laws exist, they are not enforced according to the requirements of the laws. Is there no other form of punishment for for a child's misbehavior other than inflicting body injuries on the child?

The laws to protect child rights should be activated and strictly enforced. Institutions saddled with this responsibility should as a matter of necessity, work relentlessly to ensure that parents, guardians, caregivers and others responsible for children's welfare, do not take actions to the this extent of causing bodily harm or injuries to children.

This kind of act should not be tolerated any where in the world. It is time for everyone to rise up to protect, defend and speak for these vulnerable and defenseless children. The law enforcement agencies for children should not let this couple go free. They should be be brought to book and met with the prescribed punishment for this barbaric act.

When you see a caregiver going beyond normal way of punishing a child, please speak! You be saving that child.

I'm deeply pained by this very act. Infact I would contribute in any effort to give this little child justice. My eyes are now more open to carefully monitor the actions of caregivers against these vulnerable children. I would not hesitate to action against anyone I see inflicting injury on any child.
