A day in the life : Day 624

I spent part of the morning reading about how UPI transactions keep becoming a bigger part of everyday shopping in India. I noticed the same thing when I went out today. Even a small roadside seller had a QR code hanging near the counter. Cash has not disappeared, of course, but carrying exact change feels much less important than it used to.

I had gone out mainly to get a haircut. There was only one person ahead of me, so I thought it would be quick. That turned into nearly forty minutes because the barber knew him well and they started discussing everything from cricket to property prices. I wasn't in a hurry, so I just sat there listening. Local shops can sometimes provide more news than social media.

My small problem today involved the refrigerator. I noticed a little water collecting underneath one of the vegetable trays. For a moment I assumed something was wrong with the fridge. After removing everything, I found a packet of frozen peas with a tiny tear in it. At least there was no repair bill waiting for me.

The monsoon weather remained unpredictable. The morning was humid, then we got a short burst of rain in the afternoon. I bought some corn while returning home and roasted it later with a little salt and lemon. That was easily the best snack of the day.

I also spent some time checking old expenses tonight. There were several tiny online purchases that I barely remembered making. None of them mattered individually, but together they were enough to catch my attention. Digital payments make spending convenient, perhaps a little too convenient sometimes.

It was a normal Saturday without any major plans. I got a few things done, had good food, solved one imaginary refrigerator crisis, and still had enough time to relax. I cannot complain about that.
