Caricature is one of the most common portraiture style used especially by cartoonists.

There are also different styles of caricatures, from simple line art to colored ones. One characteristic of this art style is the exaggerated facial features like big nose, big eyes or big mouth, some of the parts of the body where made small to give more emphasis on the dominant parts, for example: in editorial cartooning, they give more emphasis to face and mouth to show the personality of the person they are drawing. And in Caricature, it is important to give detail to the prominent features of the subject, this is for the viewers or readers to easily verify and know who the subject is.

Bubble head is one of Caricature's style and in this commission, that style is what I used.

PROCESS

I used Medibang Paint Android App and Photohop on this one.
I draw lines and details on Medibang and then refine this on Photoshop.

This is the first draft of the client's face. I drew this on Medibang by getting the outlines of the face given to me.

I colored it too with the same application. I changed a little bit her hair and jaw line to be more cartoon-like.

The first plan is to make a body with the posture like the image above (middle). She must wear a white polo shirt and a jeans paired with white sneakers.

But then we decided it would be much prettier if her hand would make a wave gesture. This is a much friendlier look. But the problem is, I have difficulty in drawing hands (I hate anatomy !), so I have to practice a little more to get the right proportion and gesture.

And finally I got it. The client like it, too.

I just have to grade the color a little lighter via photoshop. I made the shirt and the pants lighter thus pairing it more with her friendly and pretty aura.

These are some of the parts I used in this caricature. I have to separate them in the working images so I can easily edit their positioning. These were also drawn in Medibang paint.
