Jesus is the way: Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words and obeys them—I will show you what he is like. Luke 6:47
The Gospel of Luke relates that Jesus, in the Sermon on the Mount, taught about the spiritual need to listen to and practice the word of God, after announcing the beatitudes and the perfect love of God, the edifying, progressive, expansive, and benevolent love. With this explanation of the word, Jesus continued with the teachings of the sapiential literature of the Bible that explain the importance of acquiring wisdom and living it with firmness and constancy. Jesus, without explicitly stating it, wisely taught the principles of the science of ethics.
It must be remembered that in the doctrine of the Kingdom of God taught by Jesus, everything begins with the word, first by faith, because one cannot believe without hearing the word of Jesus, and because love itself is a fruit of the word in the heart. In other words, no one can love like Jesus loved if they do not first listen to and practice his word. The Kingdom of God is a doctrine of spiritual mysteries, and the word is ultimately one of them.
And with these words, the Lord began his spiritual teaching: "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and yet don't do what I tell you? Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words and obeys them—I will show you what he is like" Luke 6:46-47.
And so Jesus continued and explained that the man who hears his word and puts it into practice is like that wise builder who laid his foundation on rock, and when the time of testing came, the structure withstood the test. But whoever hears his word and does not put it into practice is like that foolish builder who built his house without a foundation, and when the waters rushed down upon it, it collapsed.
Jesus, in his wisdom, taught his listeners with this metaphor that he is the way to the true life, the gift of eternal life, and that there is no other like him. Men are free to choose or reject Jesus and his word, but by faith, these paths lead to different outcomes. This is because Jesus is ultimately the personification of wisdom. A wisdom, a word, that gives man's life a new meaning, and that meaning is to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth.
