How to Configure pfSense on Proxmox Dedicated Serve

in #pfsense7 hours ago

Running your firewall as a VM alongside your other workloads is one of the smartest ways to use a dedicated server's hardware — but only when it's configured correctly.

Our latest tutorial covers the full deployment of pfSense CE on Proxmox VE: setting up separate WAN and LAN virtual bridges, provisioning the VM with the right CPU and NIC settings, assigning interfaces properly on first boot, and applying the checksum-offload fix that prevents throughput problems in virtualized pfSense setups.

We finish with the most important security step — removing the Proxmox management interface from the public WAN and placing it entirely behind your new pfSense firewall.
