The human soul

The human soul, like the soul of the irrational and of all things, has only natural life; and neither one nor the other are intelligent, but they are sensitive. If this had been pronounced in the time of dualism, men would have promoted fights; and it is certain that the one who pronounced it and affirmed it would have suffered persecutions and even sacrifice, especially in the domains of Christianity and more Catholicism, because the soul was granted all the greatness of man and things, in the divine and human.

But already in the last times of the sixth day, when free thought was somewhat emancipated (what prejudice allowed them), they have been able to study something about the soul and demonstrated science (by and with the lights of the spirit) by studying the animal kingdom, that the soul was not the cause of man's thought.

But as they did not know how to reach the sources of lights to know what the soul is, he fell into another greater error and was not granted more life than that of bodies.

What the soul is, we shall say in the sixth chapter, in its corresponding paragraph, because it is exclusively dedicated to man; here only the life of the soul is spoken of.

The soul of men, like that of all beings of nature, is matter; and being matter, it can only have the life of matter and this is natural life; life of law in creation, but without responsibility; because the law that governs matter is similar to that which governs beings in their incubation, that matter is nothing else but the germs of forms, before they become forms: It is the seed thrown by the sower in the soil; it is the egg that the being of the chick must provide when it is placed in the incubator or covered by the hatchery, which with its heat will hatch it and take out another being of the kind of germ; but if that germ had no life, in vain would be the agent heat and moisture, in the egg and the seed.

This is well comparable to the human soul and to the souls of all beings of natural life; but as soon as this soul is seen taking part, by its law, in a human, animal, vegetable or even mineral body, it takes on sensitivity and this is only the quality of the soul, as is quality in the seed and the egg, to provide elements of body or form; and therefore, the soul, in general, has no life other than natural life.

This is clearly demonstrated by all beings that are not men; they are born, grow, multiply, suffer and enjoy in their law, with unconsciousness; they are sensitive, but do not reason; and reasoning is only what differentiates man from other beings; but it is because, in his natural soul, the spirit is enveloped, to act upon all the souls of other beings; but even this does not differentiate the human soul from the irrational or natural soul, but in the superior degree of its essences; For the law of affinity gives to every thing that pertains to it for the fulfillment of its functions, in the eternal creation; and as the spirit must do the greatest works, it also requires for the soul in which it is to be wrapped to work, adequate matter, the most filtered that nature in its natural life has; but this does not, however, give it more life than natural, because it does not have it.

The only thing that the human soul has over those of other beings is a greater sensitivity; because, as I have already said, it is finer matter, more filtered and therefore, more beautiful, but with the same life; if we look at a tree with its fruits, we see that the tree is only one and that in its fruits there are differences of forms, colors and even flavor, depending on whether they are those fruits of the high or low branches, which are in the shade, in the interior or exposed to the light in the exterior; For the higher the fruit is and the more exposed it is, the tastier, the more developed and the more beautiful it is; and everything is not seasoned in the same day and it is even difficult to believe at first sight, if we have knowledge of arboriculture or if we do not prove it personally, that the fruits, the most beautiful and the most rickety, are all from the same tree.

So it is with the human soul: it is more fruit
But, as in the fruits of the tree, they all have the same natural life, despite their differences in size, taste, and beauty, and are the same matter, of the same tree, and of the same life.

What there is is, in matter and spirit, as in wisdom and in all things of the creator, there are degrees of perfection, just as among men there are degrees of culture and different degrees of beauty and physiological qualities, to the degree that there are not two equal in the whole Universe, though all are governed by the same law and we are all children of the same author Eloi.

The soul, the more pure matter it is, the more sensitive it is; but it will always be matter of natural life, although by its brightness it may seem luminous, like the spirit; but the light of the soul, is nothing more than that of the spirit, because it is its own and nothing else is the light of souls and worlds. The spirit will always be the spirit, no matter how cloudy it may be; and the soul will always be matter, no matter how much it can light more than a sun; but it can never get out of its natural life, because it has no other.

What there is, is that the soul, the purer in its matter, is more sensitive and the closer it comes to its conscious agent, the spirit that ennobles it; and it becomes so sensitive, that it feels even the vibrations of universal life, while another soul of the same nature, but that only lives its natural life, in a beast, is hardly sensitive, nor to the pain of a strong whip; but they are of the same nature and both have the same life: One is the fruit of the highest branch of the tree that is saturated with sun and oxygen night and day; the other is of the lowest and internal branches, that only receives the sun by the penumbra of the foliage and the cold and scarce oxygen, because the foliage does not give it free passage; all this will be proved by a single glance studying nature and you will agree, rationally, with wisdom, that the soul only has natural life and that in reality it is sensitivity.
