The heron is an exceptionally beautiful bird with a calm nature.
Physical Appearance
The heron is recognized for its long neck, long legs, and pointed beak. Its size varies depending on the species, but it is generally white in color. Its legs are slender and long, enabling it to walk with ease in deep water and search for prey. Its beak is very strong and spear-like, allowing it to catch fish in the blink of an eye.
Behavior and Concentration
The heron's most defining characteristic is its patience. While hunting, it can stand motionless on one leg at the water's edge for hours on end. Due to this very trait, the Hindi idiom 'Bagula Bhagat' came into existence; it is used to describe a person who appears calm on the outside but is cunning on the inside. However, in the natural world, this level of concentration is essential for its survival.
Diet and Habitat
The heron is primarily a carnivorous bird. Its favorite food is fish, but it also consumes frogs, crabs, small snakes, and insects. It typically builds its nest out of twigs on the high branches of trees. Herons generally prefer to live in groups, known as a 'colony.'
