To a mason, a wall is just made of bricks and stones.

Once the wall stood tall, the real work began—the pointing and finishing. Ramdeen cleaned the joints between the wet bricks, scraping away the excess mortar. With his fingers, he filled in the crevices where the mortar had run a little thin. He knew that even a tiny crack could, in the future, become a source of dampness or structural weakness.

When the final corner was leveled, he stepped back a few paces to admire his creation. In the light of the fading evening, that red-brick wall gleamed like a majestic fortress. He washed his trowel, cleaned his mortar pan, and quenched his thirst from the water pitcher lying nearby.

He picked up his satchel and set off for home. His hands were weary, and a dull ache lingered in his back, yet his spirit felt light. Today, he had not merely completed a single wall; he had laid the foundation for a sturdy roof that would shelter generations to come. Tomorrow, he would return to 'cure' the wall—watering it diligently—so that it might withstand the ravages of time and stand unyielding for decades to come.
