My Morning Coffee & the Surveillance State
Hi again, or whoever you are reading this.

If you just stumbled into my intro post, there are probably three reasons you're here: you're curious about who the heck I am, you're trying to figure out why I don't use my real name, or you're just hunting for content and hoping it's not too serious. Fair play, I appreciate you.
So let's start real fast with something I actually do in my real life: morning coffee. ☕ But instead of "here's a latte, enjoy"—because that's boring and I'm not here to be boring—let's talk about how this simple habit puts me on camera.
It seems innocent enough, but let me tell you the chain. I walk into a cafe that has cameras, most do especially the ones with WiFi. I sit at a table, and the place might track my phone's signal, some places do without telling you. I use the cafe's WiFi, which is logged with my device info. I post on the internet about it, and now every piece of content is tied to that location, time, and data. You see? I'm not just drinking coffee. I'm leaving a breadcrumb trail that goes from your cup to the cloud.
Now here's the part nobody wants to talk about. The cafe, the network provider, the apps on my phone, the ads I see when I buy things online, and the "recommendation" algorithms that know I like 4 AM sci-fi horror movies. They all know. They all track. And they never stop.
Don't get me wrong, I know some people will say, "But you're using a VPN, dummy!" or "Just don't upload your IP address!" Sure. But then you're using a tool that's probably owned by someone else who sells your data. It's the digital version of buying a cage to contain your bird. You're still in a cage. Just a more expensive one.
I don't know the answer to "How do we stay free?" But here's what helps. Slow down. Less digital footprints when you're less connected. Ask questions. Who's watching? What are they selling? Use tools wisely. A VPN isn't a magic shield. It's a tool that needs to be used right. And accept you're still part of the game. Even anonymous, you're still on some platform's watchlist. You might as well use it to your advantage.
Don't feel bad if this seems like a rant. This is actually fun for me. Writing about surveillance, privacy, and the weird world we live in—it's kind of therapeutic. Like I'm cleaning my digital house.
So thanks for reading. Whether you follow or not, I appreciate you making it this far.
See you next time, wherever that is. 🕵️♂️
