What you're describing is interesting, but I recommend you check out the blog; it also mentions the connection between procurement and supplier management. In large companies, this is handled by dedicated specialists - they evaluate suppliers, negotiate, and monitor contract terms. Purchasing, on the other hand, is more akin to administrative work: creating a purchase order, confirming the order, and processing the invoice. So, although these two terms are similar, in practice they represent different levels of responsibility.
