A seriously hot run that could have been dangerous
It really took it out of me and I should probably be more careful.
They advise that you do not do activity like this on days that are this hot but I have been listening to and reading David Goggins lately and he is more of a "get out there and do it anyway!" sort of person and honestly, while this is inspiring it could be quite dangerous if someone took that attitude too seriously and just kept chugging along even though their body was basically screaming "stop!"
While my run wasn't really fast at all it was at an honestly stupid time of day on a really hot day and the reason why I did this was to avoid the crowds. This could have been a bad mistake and I was sweating so much by the time I got home that sweat had complete saturated my shoes and it was leaving little wet footprints everywhere that I went.

They say that your max heart rate is 220 - your age. I am in my late 40's so I don't really have any business getting up to over 200. The average being 175 might be impressive to someone training to be a sprinter, but I am just trying to get some simple cardio in.
My average pace was nothing to write home about. I wasn't pushing it, it was just extremely hot and humid.

When I did finally get past the 5km mark I felt light headed and it is a good thing that I had my solid block of ice that had turned into water at this point because I believe my body was seriously overheating. I never achieved any great pace and most of the time I felt like I was doing the "old man shuffle" rather than actually running.

I'm always aiming to get my 5k's done in less than 35 minutes so I missed it by a second. dammit!
I need to be a bit more careful because after this run I got home and took a cold shower and then just stood there for a while. Afterwards it took me a very long time to cool down and feel normal again and I think this is my body's way of telling me to not do that again.
I don't like to give up and I do find Goggins inspiring but he may actually be requesting that we push ourselves too much and to the point where a rather serious medical situation could occur. The fact that I felt faint after the 35 minutes is not a good sign.
I think I will step it back and maybe do intervals instead of a full 35 minutes in a row. I can't get out there at night or in the morning because of my schedule so I am going to have to adjust in some other way.
Oh and by the way the rice trick seems to have worked on drying out my watch. It's a Christmas miracle.
