The faith of Saint Peter: Everyone in Israel should then know for certain that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36
The Book of Acts was initially written as a continuation of the Gospel of Luke, and begins with the promise of the Holy Spirit made by Jesus to his disciples, who appeared to them numerous times after his resurrection. But Jesus' words seemed confusing and obscure to the disciples, for they did not yet possess the knowledge from above.
And when the day of the celebration of Pentecost arrived, the Book of Acts relates, the disciples were all gathered in Jerusalem and in the same place, and they received the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, in tongues of fire. Through this, the disciples became guided, enlightened, and inspired people; that is, true spiritual men born from above in the likeness of God in essence, and so they became wise as God is wise. And it was in this way that they understood, with the gift of understanding, all the words of Jesus, which before the miracle seemed incomprehensible.
And the arrival of the Holy Spirit attracted the attention of many people, especially pilgrims who came to Jerusalem for the celebration, who crowded in front of the house where the disciples were gathered, and so Saint Peter, moved by the gift of faith, gave his first speech to the multitude who were wondering what was happening.
And so Peter gave a long speech about the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Jesus. The Book of Acts recounts that the apostle Peter quoted an ancient prophecy from the prophet Joel and a text from the Book of Psalms, more specifically Psalm 16. And so in his testimony of faith, Peter explained that Jesus was the expected Messiah, and that with his death and resurrection, he was glorified by God. And finally, Peter concluded his speech with these words: "Everyone in Israel should then know for certain that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ, even though you put him to death on a cross" Acts 2:36. According to the Book of Acts, Saint Peter's testimony moved many people, and the Book of Acts recounts that many were baptized into the new faith, and that there were about three thousand people.
