The Peanut Seller: A Familiar Face of Winter

A peanut vendor is often seen with his small pushcart or basket. Perched upon his cart is a burning brazier or a large pan, in which he roasts peanuts in a mixture of sand and salt. The smoke rising from the brazier, combined with the savory aroma of the roasting peanuts, draws passersby toward him. With great dexterity, he quickly folds small paper packets (cone-shaped) and weighs out hot peanuts for his customers.
A Life of Hardship and Hard Work
The life of a peanut vendor is fraught with struggle. Whether in bone-chilling cold or light rain, he stands by his cart for hours on end. His earnings are meager; yet, a look of contentment often graces his face. He fetches raw peanuts from the wholesale market early in the morning; thereafter, cleaning and preparing them for roasting becomes an integral part of his daily routine.
