SLC31-W3: Shop & Share Challenge - Street Market Purchase

1000606104.jpg

Yesterday, I arrived at my new place of work at Utako Abuja very early in the morning without eating at home. I almost vomited while inside the vehicle because I hadn't eaten. Upon reaching Utako I reported myself at work before taking an excuse from my boss to buy something outside.

The street that I visited at Utako to buy something is Delta line utako, Abuja. This a very busy street for businesses. The street is very wide, as it is at the heart of Utako and it's not just a street but it is a street for commercial activities which is why it is called the Delta Line Utako. Close to the street there is a motor park, hotels, offices, and residential buildings.

On the street, you can see how vehicles are being parked waiting to carry passengers to their destination and traders usually come to this street to sell their goods to travellers and including those whose place of work is closer to the street. It is a well-organised street.

Tell us why you chose that street or open market

As I earlier said I left my home for my new place of work very early in the morning without eating. I was so hungry and I was looking for a nearby place to buy what I can eat which my colleagues at work directed me to go and buy something from the Delta Line, Utaoko Street. I bought three items from different sellers a man and a woman.

The price of the item you purchased from the street or the open market

As I went to the Delta Line Utako Street, I met different sellers on the Street which I went to the first seller and bought: gala, sprite, and pure water. After selecting what I needed, I then made a cash payment, and the change that was given to me I then used it to buy cold pure water from someone who was hawking.

Describe your shopping experience, including pricing, bargaining, and product quality

I had a great shopping experience shopping at the place for the first time. However, I was curious about the price difference between the price of Gala and Sprite on the street compared to the price at Jikwoyi.

After selecting Gala and Sprite I gave the seller the amount of money that I used to buy them at Jikwoyi, which he rejected and said his balance is ₦150 which I was like what, and bargained with him, but still he refused and insisted that I pay him the complete money or I return the items. I had no other option than to pay for what I bought.

In some places street or open markets usually cause traffic, describing how busy the street or open market is

Exactly in this street their is a traffic jam as it is a place where vehicles are parked waiting for travellers, a place where people go about hawking their business on their heads, a place that is populated. All these make the street crowded, especially in the evening.

What is your advice to the street or open market sellers to improve business performance?

My advice to the street sellers to improve business performance is for them to have a stall so they can comfortably sit inside and sell their goods to avoid being beaten by the sun, rain, dust etc. Also, those going about hawking, carrying something on their head, and selling should have a standpoint because it is risky hawking in such an environment where vehicles are passing through and flow anyhow.

Review:
"Delta line utako, Abuja” has nice places that sell many snacks, fresh vegetables, fruits, breads and other items. You should know that things in town are more expensive than things in the village as the cost of transportation, and renting of shops, stalls, taxes, are different that is how the prices for goods and services are different
