Hi Steemit family!

Today I bring a little surprise the life and work of a very controversial artist for his time, is also considered one of the most representative muralists of graffiti in the eighties. I'm talking about Keith Haring, come with me to discover some details of his life.

source

Born in Pennsylvania in 1958, Keith Haring felt inspired by the cartoons transmitted on television since he was a child, so his first muses were these drawings that he made with care, he already had practice since childhood, after finishing high school he decides to study art at Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh, when he leaves he dedicates himself full time to make silkscreen for clothing.

source

Then he got a scholarship in the school of Visual Arts of New York, for the year 1979 he is presenting his first performance titled Poetry-Word-Things in the Club 57 of Manhattan, for the following year he begins to realize graffiti, is when he really begins his career, he used to make animal drawings on advertisements of the subway of New York using as tool a felt-tip pen.

source

After a while he changes his technique without leaving the subway stations and begins his stage of comics, made with materials ranging from paint to his favorite white chalk. This time he changes the subway ads for advertising panels in which he establishes his narrative, which would give him his personal touch or when he finally matures artistically.

source

Some of the elements he used to paint at that stage were people, things related to sex, flying saucers, as well as babies, halos, pyramids, telephones, televisions and things related to nuclear energy, the central theme of his work had to do with the ambition of power, and the technological changes that had disrupted much of the American population.

source

Keith Haring was able to paint over any element, for him there were no limits to the possibility of painting on paper, steel pieces, t-shirts, canvas, fiberglass, as his influences were from different cultures, such as African art, Mayan culture, Eskimo, Chinese calligraphy, as well as influences from other artists which were of great inspiration, such as Mark Tobey and Andy Warhol to name a few.

source

Haring's style has something to do with the formula that applied Wharhol in art, dominated street culture with an element of demotic culture, knew how to combine the elements that were fashionable in consumer society in the field of fashion and music to apply them to their art and thus get more attention from the masses, likewise did this feat in somewhat different genres such as posters, murals, sculpture and body painting. The success was worldwide.

source

In 1982 he had his first individual exhibition at the famous Tony Shafrazi Gallery in New York. And by 1986 he opened his own shop called the Pop Shop, a kind of Boutique, selling especially skating boards that he decorated himself, the segment of the population he worked with were children and teenagers.

source

Probably I always miss his beginnings as a graffiti artist, where on many occasions he was arrested for assaulting public property, he painted in almost every subway station in New York. He said that adrenaline was part of his best reward for painting in forbidden places.
