It's been a while. A few decent runs to go through.

It's been 10days since I last gave a full run through of the runs I've been doing in preparation for the Cardiff 1/2 marathon.

I'm still on track for a sub 2hour half marathon time and I will really be ramping up my distances in the weeks to come. I've started bringing in the random 5mile jogs and even the occasional 6miler, but you'll start to see some 8milers very soon.

So let's go back a few days:

So this was a random Wednesday when the plan was to have a day off to allow the old legs a period to rest. As you can see that didn't go to plan. If I remember correctly, the weather was perfect and I was actually feeling very good, so against my better judgement I ventured out.

As you can see from my min per mile spilt, it is well below my target of 9:15 min/mile.

I think the title of this runs says it all!! It was all going so well right up till the 4.5mile marker. Then "HELLO KELLY LEGS".....

Well it's safe to say my legs had a good work out that day. Oddly enough, after passing 6miles everything just seemed to get easier. I found my rhythm once again and my breathing settled right back down. It was only the fact I ran out of time and had to return to work that I cut the run off. I actually felt really good finishing and was totally recovered very quickly after stopping.

This is when the heat wave started to kick in. I'm definitely not a fan of running in the rain, but at least when it's cold and wet it doesn't just suck the life out of your body. Living in Wales, the moment it passes 20c we scream "heat wave", but this was reaching 30c.

After dieing in the heat yesterday, I loaded up with extra water and decided to go out again. There was no way I was going to do another 3, so planned for a shorter 2 miler, but at a faster pace.

By the time i got back, it looked as though I had showers with my clothes on!! I was dripping in sweat it feeling better for going out again.

Can you see the pattern in this week's runs?? 3,2,1.... Not intentional but the heat dictated I couldn't do any longer runs with out the serious threat of doing some damage to my already I er weight body.

I knew this was going to be a gruelling 1 mile sprint. It wasn't even a sprint, the brain was shouting go faster, but the old legs were saying NO! Still far faster than I would even attempt anything over 2 miles, but I've done this circuit much fast previously.

And then on to yesterday's end of week jolly. It had started to cover over with cloud, it was still very warm and humid, but with out direct sun, it felt a little cooler.

This run was never going to be a world record time, but it was a little slower than I had planned. My legs just didn't have any spring left in them, so it became a slog and a battle of wills to get it done.

I just kept telli g myself that's its another 5 miles in the bank and I got it done.

The weather is meant to take a change for the worst next week with storms forecast. I'll try and make it out for a few days but as I've said many a time, I'm definitely only a fair weather runner.
