I was photographing at the park the other day and here comes a parade of Canada Geese!
It was so delightful I decided to run a small contest for shares of @steembasicincome.

Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

It is typical for them to lay 2-8 eggs in a nest, and families will sometimes gather together after hatching, and it definitely looks like that's what is going on here. They all look pretty much the same to me, but I'm sure they can tell each other apart. :)

This was so much fun, even processing the photo had me laughing. There are SO many!

Challenge:

Count how many YOUNG geese you see in the lineup!

Comment with your guess # AND tell me a little about a bird you enjoy seeing in your area! You can talk about as many as you like and feel free to share photos you have taken! (not required) :)

Prize:

Three (3) names will be drawn and be sponsored for 1 SBI share each when this post pays out.

All correct numbers (with bird comments) will qualify for the drawing.

(Remember, you can click on the image to make it larger for easier counting. I suggest doing this on a computer instead of a small phone screen)

Consider upvoting & resteeming, though it is not required for the contest.

A beautiful family :)

I count 34 little geese.

Living in an urban area, there isn't a large biodiversity of birds. However I very much enjoy observing ducks in the pond of the nearby park. They are so peaceful, it's inspiring and calming. Watching them float, groom, eat, sleep, etc., makes me realise that life is much more simpler than what we usually make of it. Sometimes there's tension in the duck world too, and two or more ducks pick a fight for no apparent reason, but a moment later they brush it off with some flapping of their winds and go back to their zen-like calm as if nothing happened. Ducks are my life-coach :)

Here's some photos I took, including one which ended up being the cover of my latest album:

Thanks for the contest.

I love that! Great photos and great philosophy!
I think a lot more of us could benefit from seeing the world that way. :)

Thank you very much :)

I counted several times and each time 33 came out to me @katysavage (although I realize that I could easily miss someone, for the first time, for example, I did not see the one who hides behind an adult goose in the middle) 🐤🐤
Regarding the birds that I like - from my native birds my favorite is probably ducks, I often go to the pond to feed them, I like to watch how funny they run, give them names etc. And some people say I have a similar facial expression to a duck sometimes 😍🦆

I also like storks because I think they are a good superstition. The same applies to swallows. Birds and sparrows also make me happy ❤🐦
I especially like birds of prey - eagles, falcons and buzzards 🦅 And of course owls!
And from more exotic birds, I think puffins are very cute, just like penguins 🐧 I appreciate flamingos, hummingbirds are amazing, tucans are also very nice.
I just don't like pigeons, unfortunately, and sometimes even bother me in my life because, unfortunately, the city is full of them... 🕊

Yeah, the count was tricky, I'm not sure if I'll do a similar contest again. I would like to do several different kinds as the opportunities arise to benefit people with different skill sets and interests. :)
I love your little bird emojis! :)
I agree that pigeons can be a problem. But they do well where we are because we create a great environment for them.

I counted 34, it was tough though had to zoom in and everything. Great pic Katy.
I like when I'm out for a walk and see a really big hawk. Too bad it just got too hot here for day walks : (

It was tough!
I love raptors as well. :) Any luck walking in the mornings?

It did give a little break of the heat so I have been waking a little. How many baby ducks did it end up being?

Hi. I counted 34 babies. Did it on my laptop and made the pic bigger!
When I was a wee youngster there were not many penguins in my area, but about 15 years ago a large penguin colony decided to settle and breed here. The area, Simonstown, is now a penguin sanctuary. I love walking along the beach front and watching the penguins.

Penguins!!!!
What a beautiful place! I love stories of conservation like this one. It is heartening to hear about areas being protected to help out our fellow creatures on this earth. :) So beautiful, thank you for sharing!

Yo Katy. I see 30 young geese, but others may be deliberately hiding - you know how those young'ns are.
One of my favorites in the yard are black phoebes. They're like little fighter pilots, chasing down tiny bugs in the air. When they get one, you can hear a snap as their beaks shut on their prey. At one point, years ago, I thought I'd name each bird as they came into our yard. You know, getting to know every individual. So I called the first black phoebe I saw, Jackson. Now, I just say hello to them all as Jackson. You know, like, "Hi Jackson." Very bonding. :-))
Wonderful to get a picture of that hoard of geese. Beautiful picture! Thanks.

That's funny! I will remember this story on my birding adventures! :) I think Jackson is a great name for such a spitfire bird. Flycatchers are just adorable. There are a few species here that nest in the camp we visit in the summer and will nest in the rafters of the pavilions. I'm hopeful that I will be able to share photos later on. :)

Looking forward to the pictures from the camp. How's the belly doing?

Tiring, but seemingly good. :)

Marrianne and I are very excited for you. Be sure to get a room with a window, so you can take bird pictures.
I don't know what your connections are in SLC yet, but I do have a daughter and a son living in the city if you need anything. They are great people.
I did a bird post today with red wing blackbirds. I gotta get a better camera. :-))

I appreciate it! I've already prepped some posts in advance so I don't have to worry so much for the first week or so. We have a lot of family coming in for around a month and a half. I'm excited to see them and for them to meet baby.

Excellent! Good luck to y'all! :-))
