SteemHop Tips and Score from a Newbie
I started playing SteemHop last ; so I thought I should drop a second post on my experience with tips for newbies.
I have a middle age computer which I bought in 2017. I use Firefox as my main browser.
I found that I was experiencing numerous glitches during the game.
I have a second account @vagabondspirit loaded into my Chrome browser. I registered this account for a game that no-one wanted to play.
Figuring that the game might be optimized for chrome, I started playing the game with the @vagabondspirit account.
It is good to have two accounts as I can use one account for experiments and the other for serious play.
The play on Chrome was substantially better than Firefox; So I continued to play the game with my secondary account.
So, my first tip for users is to play the game on different browsers as the action varies by browser. If you have access to different computers you should try different computers.
My vintage keyboard is aging. I lose a large number of games simply because my keyboard didn't respond quick enough.
The Layout of the Town
Before hopping into my other tips, I thought I should drop a few comments about the layout of the time.
I am truly impressed by the town's mass transit infrastructure. The town has a large number of trains on an aggressive schedule.
People do not have to wait long for the train.
My one observation, and this is just a minor point, but all of the trains are headed in the same direction.
While this is great for the morning compute, I suspect that the design is problematic for the return home.
I have a second observation about the roads. I think that it is great that the city engineers have an ample number of lanes for the traffic. I think the town could decrease the number of head on collisions if, instead of alternating the traffic flow in each lane, they put all of the cars going in one direction on the right side of the road and the traffic going in the opposition direction on the left.
To keep with modern traffic theory, the town could add a bunch of confusing roundabouts.
I notice that some of the logging crews are slow in dropping logs in the flumes. I would complain but I realize that this is a union matter and I don't want to upset the union.
The Avatar is a Chicken.
I thought the avatar was a marshmallow. Apparently it is a chicken.
The game is an adaptation of a game called "Frogger" that was developed by the Japanese firm Konami (コナミグループ株式会社).
I like to imagine the character is a frog for old time sake.
Now for my Playing Tips
I guess the general summary of the game is to:
- Run with the cars,
- Float on the logs,
- Wait for trains,
- and to chill on the medians.
Run with the Cars
The cars travel at different speeds. Some of the cars are slow and the chicken can actually outpace the cars.
If you practice running with the slow and moderate cars, you can often increase your store.
It is possible to jump over cars. This is a risky move that usually results in a smashed marshmallow. I tried jumping over the train to no avail.
Float with the logs
I increased my score by learning to float on the logs. I often let trains pass while floating on a log. I discovered that the logs floating upstream will end up on dry land. Those floating down stream seem to float on for eternity.
I found that I can often jump backwards from a floating log and get on the next log when there isn't a safe forward jump from a log.
Eagles will snatch you if you float on logs early on.
Wait for Trains
The railroad crossing lights are quite accurate. If I don't know where the railroad is on a cycle. I usually just wait for the next signal and trail to pass.
Game Summary
It appears that one's score is a reflection of how much time one spends on the game. The game limits users to two sets of 30 games twice a day. That's a max of sixty games a day.
The really good players seem to earn an average of 500 points per game. They can win without using all of their games. I pretty much max out my stabs at the game.
The following table shows a summary for Season 12 of the game. I snagged position 4.
| Range | Games | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 0-49 | 194 | 3752 |
| 50-99 | 114 | 8089 |
| 100-149 | 50 | 6174 |
| 150-199 | 45 | 7675 |
| 200-249 | 25 | 5596 |
| 250-299 | 16 | 4302 |
| 300-349 | 6 | 1994 |
| 350-399 | 7 | 2615 |
| 400-449 | 5 | 2088 |
| 450-499 | 1 | 487 |
| 500-549 | 0 | 0 |
| 550-599 | 1 | 590 |
It looks like I received 43,362 points in 464 games. 194 of the games ended in under 50 points. I keep flubbing the opening.
My average game was 93 points. My highest score was 590.
I received 1,330 points from spins, 100 points for logging in and 3,575 points for tasks.
I should receive 25 points for playing the game, which I intend to power up.
I asked Night Cafe for an image of an eagle snatching a frog off a log as it prepares to hop. My player keeps getting eaten by frogs.
