Why is it when I upvote an article I notice they lose dollars?

Can I get a little clarity if anyone knows why this is happening? So I noticed the dollar amount on an article I upvoted went down. However just yesterday one article I upvoted on the dollar amount went up. Any suggestions or ideas?
