Quick Tip: Are You Out Of Upvotes? - 4 Ideas To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button
This is a "Quick Tip" to help those that are compulsive upvoters and can't keep their hands off the vote button and are out of juice. (see picture A below)
(Picture A from Steemworld.org)
Note: the pics above mean your votes have no power and it will take you 4days and 10hrs to recharge back to 100% (if you do not upvote during that time). You can find your own voting power meter at www.steemworld.org/@yourusername
#1 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Make A Meaningful Comment
Always make a meaningful comment to the author's post if you like it. Be very sincere and make sure you reply based on what the author posted. You should try to find a way to express your appreciation for the post they made. (Note: an author will like that better than a very small upvote)
Examples Of Good Comments
Note: not every person is a wordsmith and gifted with perfect grammar or style. But in these 3 cases you can see the people actually looked at the article and took the time to ask a question, comment on the quality, or give their appreciation. It is not that hard to do so and will express yourself better than an upvote will.
Examples Of Weak Comments
Note: these comments are weak because they looked like they were just "stop-bys" (someone trying to just stick their small opinion and hoping to get an author upvote for money). Most authors disregard these comments and view them as fake. So just take the time and use your own genuine words and do it right. (its not that much harder to say something nice and meaningful from the heart, but it makes a big difference)
#2 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Resteem It!
If you like an article/post and you don't have an upvote to give, just resteem it. The reason is if you truly like it and want to help the author, then putting it on your page will help the author get more views (see picture B). A resteem is much more valuable to an author than a small vote.
(Picture B - pic of my blog and a resteemed article)
Note if you want to tell the author that you resteemed it, its ok to do so, but you should also say something nice too. Don't just say "resteemed" in the comment box. Say something nice about the post and say the post was so good that you are resteeming it. (this is a personal choice whether to tell them or not)
#3 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Tag A Comment With @originalworks
If the article is original and no one has tagged it yet with @originalworks, then you can do so and it is a way to help the author to earn at least something from the post. (Especially if the author is small and not a whale)
(Picture C: screenshot of my tag in the comment box)
All you have to do is to go to the reply button and just type in @originalworks into a SEPARATE reply from the one you complimented them on. Again, only do this if you like the post and feel that the author needs some appreciation. It helps them and is a sign of respect that you would try to get them some payout.
#4 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Use The Power Of @resteemable
Use the much bigger power of @resteemable to resteem it through their network. This works the same as the concept behind you resteeming it, but it has the power of a bigger account behind it.
(Picture D: screenshot showing what to replace and insert)
To do this, you simply need to go into the URL of ANY post, and replace the https:// with the 2 letters re (see Picture D above). And this is what it will look like before you send it by clicking the arrow (see Picture E below)
(Picture E: screenshot with the https:// removed and the "re" inserted)
What will happen next if you do it right is you will see a screen that asks you if you would like to donate. Note: of course since you are small they don't expect you to donate, they are a service to help the small guys and the donating is for the bigger fish
Once you see this screen, you did it RIGHT! Hit the back button and you're done. The request is sent and it will be processed automatically by @resteemable.
Conclusion:
I hope these quick tips will help you to show your appreciation in other ways, rather than over-using your upvotes. Upvoting is good, but these tips are better (especially when you are smaller). Everyone here wants you to succeed. And we all know that in order to accomplish this we all must do our best with the tools we have. Thankfully steemit is filled with some awesome tools to allow that to happen.

Well said. I am slowly learning all about steemit, and already I've read a few great articles by @davemccoy. Good job and keep up the good work! Though I am still wondering if a 100% vote from me is worth .00, why not up vote anyway? At 100% steem power, is it worth something in the thousandths? Or should I keep my power up so I have it when it is worth something?
That's a valid point and certainly one that many will agree with. I personally think it was uplifting to learn how to live without it. It kinda forced me to develop other skills, and now that I have learned those (instead of just using upvotes as a means of appreciation, I think I am in a much better position. You never lose the use of your voting machine, but learning how to comment in ways that are thought through can be very good for a social platform because it does several things all at once. You get to know someone and they get to know you, others get to know you and sometimes will follow you just because of a thoughtful comment, and three you can get upvoted on being smart, funny, kind, or appreciative and polite. Those earn money yes, but they also build your reputation which is a big part of success here.
So I agree not to worry too much about upvote (one way or the other), I still hope you continue to engage author the way you engaged me here. Its nice to hear a compliment on my post and I'm always happy when I get real thought back on the subject!
Cheer to you @rball8970 and I hope you stay in touch with me :)
ps.. my upvote was to show my appreciation for your thought in your comment to me and to show you how easy it is to make a new friend and also earn a small bit of money in the process ;)
Thank you @davemccoy for the up vote! I definitely plan on making friends and settling into this wonderful community. So much to take in! Your articles have helped me to learn and understand many things that have boggled my mind. I love this platform! I hope it replaces the other popular social media. By the way, I only give credit where do, and I really like your content and writing. Hope I'm as good as you one day! Cheers
That is very very nice @rball8970, I am touched that you tell me how my words have helped you. I can really feel the sincerity in the way you write, you express your thoughts with honesty and respect. This place is amazing with so many talented and wonderful people, and I'm happy that I could connect to you so early in both of our steemit lives!
And ps... I'm hoping that you will be better than me. (and I will gladly help to make that happen if you would like me too) ;)
I also feel sincerity while reading your writing! :) I don't consider myself very talented at it just yet, but I'm making an effort to the best of my abilities! I don't know if I can surpass your writing abilities, but I'd like to help you improve as well. I suppose we will find out! Cheers :)
I'm looking forward to it and you are welcome to give me ideas anytime! The good thing about this community is the connections we make and how we can work together. I'm happy to work with you in whatever way works for you, and I'm also a believer that you are one that will be helping others to see their own potential. That's a asset to that will benefit you and everyone that you come in contact with. Stay in touch!
He makes amazingly great articals! Luckily I've figured a lot out myself, but I still get something valuable from each post :) I just need to stop letting the Little's distract me so much to implement them, hahahaha!!
@kaylinart thanks for the good post that I included in my snapshot in this article... It was a very good article you did with beautiful artwork :)
lol @davemccoy I am the compulsive upvoter lol still slowly powering back up but hey now I understand the way that works, I have been trying to at least get the one's I really like the #resteem and I have accidentally hit the #upvote button not thinking about it...in time the habits will die off! Yet another great posting and very informative! Where were you with all these details last week :)
lol funny, I didn't know all these tricks then either... ;)
I agree sometimes I just have to click the upvote only because I know the person needs the moral boost. I can't wait until my upvote carries some punch, then I will actually give real help to people. (ps... I'm sure you will be spreading the love out there too) ;)
Thanks for the compliment, sometimes its hard to tell if it gets not traction whether it was good or not. I try to be informative but also realize that it can be boring too... So its nice to hear that you like it if you do.
Control yourself out there @charisma777, your meter will pack a lot of power soon :)
@davemccoy so far all the posts you have put out there that I have seen are very helpful to myself as well as others i'm sure. We are all in this together imo
thanks @charisma777 :) ... And yes we are, that's why its so addictive to me. The best way to "win" is to do it right and to help others to do the same!
thank you for being a genuine person! I understand the addictive side of it. I mean some may think it won't work for them but like you said in all of your posts there is a way to do it and I think you are definitely doing it right!
Thank you @charisma :) and same to you too for sure!!!
It's funny that minnows want to vote all the time when their votes makes next to zero cents. These days, my voting power is almost always 99% I spent almost 10days up voting and earned about 0.007sbd on them. On the other hand, I have made far more from reading posts and commenting. The only ones that should upvote with the intention to earn are those with large SP in my opinion
I agree with you completely... That's why I feel like its a battle to educate them. I have also earned far more on any comment than I ever earn of my posts... This one will be lucky to break 0.20 and I get upvotes on comments over $1 on many many occasions. I'm glad you get it @ninjadroidx, and I'm glad we are on the same team going forward. Thanks for the input too, the validation from someone else is good for them to see!
You're welcome @davemccoy. Keep helping and writing. We will all be reading.
:) ... awesome and thank you @ninjadroidx
Thank you for this conversation and info. I am new and this really helps. My hope is always that my posts will generate honest and robust debate....
Thanks for the information, it all helps make this experience more enjoyable..
Hi there @davemccoy! Nice tips there, and a special note on the first example of a good comment...
This user named nasional probably should be checked out regarding it's true nature... Just take note of all of it's comments on other users, browsing it's blog interaccion...
I've recently flaged it! Be your own judge! Best regards Helder!
I'll check it out... thanks for the heads up... And I appreciate the feedback too, I'm glad you pointed out the use of the tag in the first comment. It was too much to explain in the main article, so I figured I 'd just make it an example... And btw, if you like good artists, that article shows some serious skills. And finally thanks for keeping an eye out there on people, its good that you care about the quality of our community!
Dave you were the first person that spoke with me on Steemit! Gave me good tips! I like your content, so I follow you, and have also your feed...
Bots are a problem. So, I've resteemed a thorough article by @themarkymark and it's well documented problematic practices and other forms of misuse of this platform!
:D
Thanks for telling me that @helder-coelho, I'm honored that you would remember and that you follow my stuff. I'm certainly glad I could help, and i mean it when I say that I like to help my "teammates"... To me everyone on steemit is a teammate and we're here to support each other and have each other's backs.
As far as bots go, I'm still digging into the issue... I know that some of them like @resteemable are there to help the little guys and trying to give the little some help... On the other hand, I've also heard issue surrounding some of the ridiculous payouts on a very few posters who have sorta rigged the system so to speak.
I haven't formed a full opinion yet, I'm still in the learning mode. I can see benefits, but I can also see how they can be misused too. I've also seen others try to form initiatives to fight back, and again at this point I'm just trying to learn and figure out what I can. So I'll check out the article that you resteemed, you brought it to my attention and I respect that. If you find any other information about that issue, or any other don't hesitate to tag me and send me a message.
Again, its very cool to hear I was the first guy to welcome you. I try to do that many times a day because I remember how I felt my first day. Its great that it also made a connection and hopefully a connection that will last for a long time! Cheers and you're always welcome here :)
@davemccoy Thanks for the information. Your post is refocusing thoughts on focusing on creating compelling content instead trying to get votes. Thanks for helping me refocus!
Awesome, that is very very good that you got that message out of it. I'm thrilled to hear you say that and yes, its exactly right. I have seen good content with personal messages really light this place up... For example one of my friends here @cheche016 has found her style and look at this post from just the last few days: https://steemit.com/steemitph/@cheche016/family-thats-eats-together-stays-togethe-2017-12-31-12-37-02 Its simple, but a great message and personalized very well... She has earned more on one post then all of mine put together.
So I'm happy I could help you refocus and if I could give you any advice it is to be real and genuine. People like good stories and they like to know about different lives all over the world.
This is an awesome platform, but it can be a little overwhelming... So if you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to contact me @davemccoy. I'm really happy to help and would love it if you stay in touch!
Thank you for all your advice @davemccoy. Thing is, I'm a relative newbie and looking at my upvote on "steemworld" i can see that my vote is worth nothing even at 100%! is this because my power is delegated?
If so, when will this delegation come to an end? Is it even worth me "powering up"?
I'm not really a "techy" guy, so some of my questions may seem a little dense. I'm working with the principle of being honest in my writing and really concentrating on reading posts and then commenting and "meeting" people and engaging.
Thanks for your help bro, it's appreciated.
Some great tips on how we minnows can show sone love! Thanks for the tips, @davemccoy!
Exactly @novacadian! I hated not upvoting at first, and was kinda upset for a few hours. Then I said I'll do it by some other ways... It worked. It was the best thing that happened because it forced me to get out there and comment. (now I can't shut up) ;)
Thanks for stopping by and telling me... I hope we stay in touch!
Yepper. Have you set to follow. Rave on Brother! 😎
Same here my man! :)

Very helpful information! I’m a newb and not quite out of upvotes yet since I’m still learning and coming online only when able. Good to know all this though! Thanks @davemccoy
Hey @butterb, welcome to steemit then and happy to connect to you. Thanks for commenting and letting me know it was helpful. Its good to hear you didn't suffer the vote power outage that a lot of people do in the beginning. ;) ...I'm happy you found this useful and I have about 10 articles total in my blog if you ever feel like looking... they cover what reputation is... how to get new followers... and stuff like that... You're of course welcome to read it, and just as importantly if you would like to just ask me just tag me @davemccoy and I'll get the message and respond in any comment.
Its nice to meet you @butterb and hope you stay in touch!
And ps...have lots of fun her too, I do every day :)
I will be sure to read the articles. Thanks a bunch! Thanks for the sincere welcome. I can truly say it is nice to meet you as well @davemccoy!
The feeling is mutual @butterb, its comments like that make me enjoy the quality of people I've met in just 16 days! :)
