I live in South Africa and my great grandfather, who was German, was sent to prison during the first World War as he was German, and one of his daughters died of malnutrition during that time. When WWII came around, my great grandfather was quite old, so he wasn't imprisoned, but had to report to the local police station twice a day, and died of pneumonia.

Wow, I had never heard they were treated as such in South Africa during the war.
