RE: What supermarkets are good for

in #supermarket7 years ago (edited)

We might be slipping into a next dimension if we keep on descending like spidery spelunkers on our shimmering threads.

Don't tell me: this comes second nature to you too? (Seems all the same to me: diving, caving, sailing, motor cycles.... It takes the same kind of reliance on body, equipment and steady head. So you are probably going to tell me it does.)

Sort:

I have no strong urge to fly and I know this because I've been handed the controls of airplanes numerous times. I also piloted Hovercraft I was part in designing and building and I can best describe the feeling as riding on snot, again, no thrills. Scat Hovercraft out of Miami once offered me a Hovercraft to pilot in races, all expense paid, but I politely declined having the skill but not the drive. I find exploring the bottom of the ocean, wreck diving or spelunking more fascinating by far. Second nature? I never considered classifying my lust for exploration as anything other than liking a change of scenery, something different than what I already know.

Let's use this depth, I decided, nice and quiet, cool and good for measured reflection. I have read your replies. Happy you had a sugar rush. Mind those void calories! Mother dearest remains stern to all boys absorbed by their toys.

In reference to your silver lining , it may be useful to note - for future reference - I play a fairer game. All clues are provided in any cryptic references. Only, granted not always so easily to hand - so how fair is that, arguably? Life is not meant to be a constant chess game, I reprimand myself! I am however fully patient to hand as many further hints as are required. After all, in my cave at least, the depths are becoming dizzying. Above all any sleep loss makes for a good learning moment. I learn to simply ask, and not be punishing on myself to think I must know everything or else....(what?). (Yes, fathers are to blame, but there is no point blaming.)

Don't know why you mention flying: perhaps I would soon enough assume you might also have done that? But so you won't be crossing the channel on a hoverjet then?

I am on the verge of over-estimating you, which never does, but who goes reading my stuff and has something intelligent to come back with?! Your own fault.

However, I was rapped on the fingers before going to bed last night. Which has had other knock on effects. Transmitting, receiving.... (No, not fair, you are missing a link because the post is not yet up and 11.11 can't mean a thing to you, yet). And it made some room for some writing I had done in 2003....not fair again, yet to be revealed.

Let's be fair. On the following accounts.

I was under a mistaken idea. Mixing the Cactus and the Mill and the riverboat up with the G-projects. I thought you were a camera man. But I probably had also picked up along the way you were the soundman on G1, so when I rediscovered it, it made perfect sense. I did NOT know you had made a record. But I could have guessed, possibly, because of those photos with the guitars, that I only now really register. Maybe I would not have deduced that you had made a record, but you clearly are more just than a bit "into" music. Needless to say I'll have to hear it some day. Even if I suspect it's going to match the mask more than the soul I've come to know. Personal preference is not an issue.
And so I have a huge box of smashed up (clay) fragments to sort through, without a super computer to aide me.

Now, to address the cause of the proverbial sleep-loss is not so easy. I wouldn't want to step on any toes. How can I phrase this delicately? Let me first assure you I am just very very curious.

May I presume that you, also, are not expecting the end result of G2 to be eligible for a Golden Calf Award? I do not doubt you have an objective view on the work as much as a subjective (sweet shop) side. And yet, I must have been doubting something, which has to bear some relevance to something more concretely of relevance to me. Curiously, our dear Persian friend now also wonders who IS the man in the mask?

I reassured him that our cares are genuine. I hope he doesn't think we are a Bonnie and Clyde scam team!

Haha, you are right, I did add something to the list, and maybe the word "descending" was the trigger to that. I never experienced diving as descending so much, more like absolute freedom to move as I wish although you could compare it to flying. Freudian slip maybe? Yes I have piloted planes, take off, flight and no landings, and no, I will not cross the channel on a Hoverjet that guzzles more fuel than did my 38ft boat.

As to the clues I thought you might have noticed the up votes from LB, but I was going to tell you anyway, I wouldn't have left you hanging for long.

I am neither a Camera Man nor a Sound Man, I am a precision machinist with side tracks. I couldn't go to several concerts every week to record music, so I had to find a way that I could record music in a venue (the Cactus) without disturbing that venue's normal operation. That meant I couldn't bring in lights and 16 track recorders because I didn't have the room to set up, and bright lights would kill the mood in a small café. The reason I chose this route (are ya bored yet?) is so I would learn to work with the available light for video, and 2 microphones for audio to put together a halfway decent video. I figured if I could do it under the worst circumstances, I could do it anywhere.

Award winning movie? Not with this bunch, and no disrespect meant for anyone involved. The cast is a combination of (former) professionals and rank amateurs with zero experience. It's quite the interesting bunch with day jobs ranging from Doktors, Musicians, pro Ballet dancer, Soldier, Taxi Driver, Cook, Prize Fighter, etc. A very diverse bunch to say the least and so are their abilities. Some are brilliant actors, others need a lot of help.

I got involved with these guys when they needed copyright free music and the guitar player they knew asked me to record the music for the first movie as I had recorded a concert for him that ended up becoming a live CD.

The paradox of asking a masked man who he is. Onno Vocks is my real name, I'm one of the few posting under my real name and the mask? It's actually not a mask.P1040896MIS.JPG

Spectacular photo. If that's a scare crow it works. The birds and the farmers have kept away and now it's a nice pice of scrub land. If that's to keep the aliens outside the stratosphere I would believe it too. What on earth is it?! And where? It is somehow not unfamiliar but that could be because you aren't (by now as avatar engrained in my memory).

Yes Mr. Fox, I noted this was your name, but what's in a name? And your face/representation of the name is equally not very interesting (charming though, as any honest face is, it certainly will proove to be.) Nor would I confuse your precision engineering skills with any other kind of manipulations of reality.

So, no, that is not what this is about. What it is about is that I am developing a pretty clear soul picture of you as honest, frank and free (no, there are better adjectives, but we'll alliterate lightly for now) but before one can simply accept that as the sketch and move on to the oils one has to check from all angles. I am hardly here to collect portraits. But I need a "face" (an interface) to be able to become more precise in my communications. Curter, shorter, maybe even. I am sure that would save you some time. That face, which is more than a presence (and that is the challenge out here) can only be built up through many thoughts shared. No Dtube video or selfies making breakfast, eating lunch, and sharing dinner with the whole family can actually do it better. It has to be a methodical affair of interaction - or not (then it's hello, goodbye, how are you, have a nice day). We don't have to compare it to building a boat, but I do liken it to building a library (filling the shelves, not pouring the cement).

We may conclude, perhaps, I have not over-estimated you nor do you come in under par despite the curious use you put your mind-boggling skill to at times. Added up you have quite a list (of new experiences), which ever prooves to be incomplete. Perhaps, there is also the curious self-reflection at play, of how we end up where we do. How everything compounds and then we suddenly find ourselves behind vending machines with poles that don't fit and a lot of bumbling around and about us. I admire your patience and hope to learn.

Thomasina will always be my middle name. Which is quite sensible in the field I am in which requires high precision engineering and mapping and building of a very different sort, or else you'll just be another fruitcake. But from a distance , perhaps, (say they eye of god,) it boils down to the similar kind of keenness to get it right. It is always very rewarding to scoop for some fry in your bay and you hand me a filleted fish.

I share a lot because there is always more I could never share, and I wouldn't want to sound deceptive or secretive or needlessly mysterious. (Nobody ever remembers my name, so now I don't have one anymore that really belongs to me. They all belong to me. My soul is always waiting to be called and in the meantime you can call me Al for all I care.)

You can liken my way of listening to what you described regards the (apparently unusual, surprise you and me both) way of listening to a song and detecting something that is there but who cares. It is a relief to discover you are not the only one. It is another challenge when a large part of the language we have learned differs considerably. I appreciate I will have to learn yours, for you are not going to learn mine (metaphysics). But that is fine by me for not only relearning my knots but learning more about harmonics was also on my list. I'll learn any language if I have to if I feel there is something very valuable to communicate: an appreciation of the I within the other.

(The indirect cause for my musings on your "face"/presence was the totally irrelevant fact that neither the A-rate actors, nor the precision sound were in the clips I found. Not at all relevant as such. Much more interesting is to hear good people having good creative fun. But I've learned here better than anywhere else- and I repeat I am far less affable than you - that good people very soon also think they make great works. Good for them. But not for me who needs to be around kind but fair(ly self-critical) minds.

I am loathe to sound ridiculous but I feel an urgency (always) that makes me spend my time wisely. Not very efficiently, but wisely. ... I have nothing left to lose but my wisdom. This creates an odd pressure, impossible to explain. But it also causes one to double check, tripple check everything. They say time is precious but I think you have to make it so. I extend a warm thank you to you for helping to make it so.

This whole voting business, by the by, is something indeed I keep forgetting to stay on top of, so also LD went under the radar; fair enough, though, point to you: hiding in plain sight. I'll be relying on you to keep me in the loop on who our friends are and what time it is on the wallet front.

Lovely picture of your record.
You very well know it all strands there.
And so I remain tantalised.
May I remind you it's cruel to keep hooks in the lips of fish too long. Dangling I can only ask you then: does Cheating Hearts sound as country western as it's meagre point of reference does to me?

For that then I will answer in reverse to unhook the Fish as soon as possible. We were a symphonic rock band that would never sound like country and western. In check with symphonic band's usual disregard to record company mandated limits of three and a half minutes, like the 10 minutes of Ghost Love Score for example, the song didn't fit on a single, so we had to slow it down to 33 1/3 RPM instead of the usual 45 RPM and speed it up to bring it in under 6 minutes. Suffice it to say I didn't like the end result, but I do still have a tape that I may yet digitize should I find both the time and a working tape player. It was recorded in an attic in the Hague in 1986 and was the reason to try the recording studio in '87. In retrospect that cramped attic had the better talent at the controls, though I will never try to wrestle a half stack (guitar amp) up 4 flights of narrow stairs ever again.

As to friends, I saw that you were recently visited by an old acquaintance who in a very nice way paid me a visit or 2 during your long absences. Chalk up a win for the friendlies as I think you'll possibly find much support there.

You can lead a Horse to water but you can't make it drink they say. This may be true, but a warm heart may convince an otherwise callous one to at least try to savor your freely given morsels of insight. Not efficiently, far from it, but so worth it to stretch and reach for.

Indeed, the A rated actors are not in the clips. Outrageous perhaps, but I didn't call the shots nor did I edit the sound. The insistence on working in noisy environments means I have to record things that later have to be removed destroying what was good. This is why Movie houses use Foley artists to create the sound stage. For now this project gets me out of the House, but for how long will remain to be seen. If I get involved with the sound production, it will take longer than editing the video footage.

I will likely never catch up to your level of language and knowledge of the classics, I had a late start as I was trying to analyze electrical circuits without as much as a single diagram, to exorcise the Gremlins from many a machine. Unlike Metaphysics, I don't question what is there or what it's like, it's always been my place to question what it's supposed to do, and why it's not doing it. For example: when the windshield wipers come on when you turn on the ship's radio, a diagram will not help you find the cause, so while the engineers and technicians spent a week not finding the problem, I spent a few hours finding a snap button's screw from a freshly installed Tarp connecting the radio's wiring to the wipers. Giggles!

Every discipline has it strengths and limitations, as do we as people. I look forward to continuing this mutually inclusive exploration of the mind and soul. That being said, I do question publicly undressing a battle hardened soldier stripping away the rusty armor to reveal the bloody gelatinous mess underneath. We may have need for that soldier just yet.

Thank you so much, sincerely, Onno.

Edit: The avatar was an earlier picture of the same object you see warding off aliens. It was created as a parade prop for a rust themed parade in Goor. The avatar leaves no doubt to locals as to which general Area I live in at the moment, though the need for that has left as has the farm and the rusty skull.

1986 you say... you still play?
The Hague you say. You have seen the world. It's the Hengelo cul de sac that keeps throwing me.
Speeding up, slowing down just to fit on a disc going round and round and round? No, I can well see that you don't like to cheat.
As luck would have it....and day 5 will reveal more. You turn out to be just the man - once again - I need for another missing detail in "the book" (There Comes A Time.....etc.etc.etc wait for Day 5). Foley artist is not quite the word I am looking for, but we are going in the right direction. What kind of equipment does a basement producer of video and records need... I mean how large would this studio have to be to put things out of an A quality and the way it's meant to be (rustic is not the word, but that's what it must sound like to the new kids - so how much "fancy stuff" would one really need?). More on what language I am exactly looking for at a later date, if we can keep this in the fridge. Ice sounds so cold.

The only one who needs to do any catching up is moi. I keep on struggling with my obssession with understanding fail-safes/relays. It is central to the same godforsaken "book". No let's be fair, it is stuffed with what the gods forsook. The fridge is starting to have trouble closing its door.

You are not short on intuition, that's the main thing. Many a wiper and flush wood pannel will testify.

I urge you fervently to remain in battle dress! I'll peek through the vizer.

P.S.
Head still spinning from watching that record go round, it strikes me how for a sphere of 25.000 miles in circumference, sin embargo, el mundo queda, siempre, siempre, un pañuelo,

To contribute to the stock of public humor and ever so slightly easing the through peeking of visors (there is a button on your right near my neck to raise it. You can't see it, but it's there.), I have this first attempt at manipulating images in Linux using Gimp from '14 or there abouts. You may recognize the eyes from elsewhere in my wallet though a different image of the same Oehoe may have been used. Without the feathers they could look like Cat's eyes if I slightly modify the aspect ratio and for a long time I contemplated actually making this visor, but mental images of police chases and Hitchcock's The Birds soon changed my mind.

I no longer play. Through a long succession of ability/inability to play due to a chronic condition, I decided it became a waste of time if every other year I had to retrain the fingies to do what they did just a few years earlier before I could move on to new progress. That was the beginning of tomfoolery with Cameras, why fight nature? I can't win anyway, I learned that as a Diver: try to go with the flow and make a side exit at convenient point rather than swim to exhaustion.

I do wear glasses, but they are clear. I had misplaced my Pañuelo but your prompt has relocated it and it's ready for use. I do not mind cold storage, as I fully trust it is temporary.
