The Diary Game | May 4, 2026 – From ₦1,240 to Jollof and Gratitude | Abuja
It’s 10:47pm here in Abuja and I just finished the last spoon of jollof rice from my pot. No plate. Straight from the pot. If that’s not a 24-year-old lifestyle, I don’t know what is 😅
Morning – The Hustle Begins
6:30am: My Samsung A20 alarm dragged me out of bed. 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, always complaining “storage low”. Me too, phone. Me too.
NEPA usually takes light by 7am, so I rushed to charge my power bank, iron 2 shirts with the small heat I had, and prep my to-do list. My 1-room self-contain is my bedroom, office, and kitchen. No fancy balcony, but it’s mine.
Afternoon – Work & Reality
Spent 4 hours on my laptop doing small online gigs. Data is expensive, so I use Opera Mini to save MB. Checked my account: ₦1,240 left. Rent is next week. Heart did small skip.
But I remembered my mom. I sent her ₦1,000 “for stew” via mobile transfer. She didn’t ask. I just did it. Because being 24 also means realizing your parents are humans who get tired too.
Evening – The Small Win
9:05pm: Light came back. Full current! I literally shouted “UP NEPA!” like we do. I cooked jollof with the small rice and stew I had.
I called my guy, “Bro, light dey, food dey, come.” He came with 2 plastic plates and we ate on the floor, laughing about crypto we don’t have and jobs we’re chasing. For 20 minutes, life felt soft.
Night – Reflection
My account balance is now ₦240. My phone says “storage low”. My future is still loading.
But today I learned: Lifestyle isn’t about iPhone or trips. It’s about finding joy in ₦500 suya when that’s all you have. It’s about sending ₦1,000 home when you have ₦1,240. It’s about building quietly while TikTok makes you feel behind.
I’m 24. I’m tired sometimes. But I’m not bitter.
One day I’ll write this post from my own flat with 24/7 light. But I hope I never forget how this jollof tasted tonight.
Thanks for reading my day, Steemit fam 🙏
What’s one small win you had .
