Copenhagen Canals and Streets

København Shades and Hues

Denmark's capital city is undeniably attractive. I walked, enjoying the easy blend of wet and dry, historic and modern, drab and brightly-colored. Danish style is effortless, easily bridging hundreds of years of architecture in a few city blocks. Even the cutting-edge, neo-futurist opera house is not out of place in a city known for Hans Christian Andersen's postcard house in Nyhavn and the 376 year-old Round Tower.

Today's is an easy stroll, safe and sound in the touristic center of Copenhagen.

Architecture Centre CafeIt's a cafe with an excellent view! Lunch in a terrarium?

Nyhavn The New Harbor (Nyhavn) includes this iconic 17th century canal with colorful buildings

Kobnhavn New Harbor Yes, Hans Christian Andersen actually lived here in the 19th century

Love locks Copenhagen love locks. Lovers hang symbolic padlocks on bridges here and in various cities in Europe

Copenhagen bike lanes Copenhagen's bike lanes are wide and often separated from traffic. Stark architectural juxtapositions are everywhere

Lovely old world atmosphere to these images. I'm fond of that spire formed by the dragon's tails, that's really cool! How convenient that their bike lanes are actually viable, unlike the cramped or nonexistent ones we have in the U.S.

Again I am reminded how badly I want to visit Europe, having never been. It piques my imagination thinking how interesting it is that so many different cultures are so close together (compared to the vast expanse of America all speaking the same language)

Thanks, @d-pend. I like that the Danes raised spires and towers in the 17th century to commerce and science as well as to religion. I'll post more on the bike culture of Copenhagen soon. They are a so far ahead in so many ways but few wear helmets.

It is amazing to visit adjacent ancient cultures that are now so close via modern transportation and communication. The Scandinavian countries each have their own very similar but separate languages while sharing rail systems and an airline.

I just realized that they had Red Bull Cliff Diving from the roof of that opera house! Now that must be a clean harbor.

welcome. keep suporting and voting

Amazing pictures!
It is crazy how many cities in Europe have these 'love locks'. I didn't know you could find them in Copenhagen too.
The opera house looks rather strange compared to the rest of the city doesn't it.

Thanks, Neil! I saw those locks being cut off a bridge somewhere, maybe Budapest. Love's locks lost? In that case, they were covering everything. Despite looking like a landed alien craft, that opera house felt Danish when seeing it in person. It helped that it was not immediately next to a 300 year-old building.

Bhut sunder pic hai sir i Hope u r understand Sir love u
