Mireuk-Jeon (Maitreya Building) in Keumsan-sa Temple, Korea
When I entered into the temple, the grandiose 3 stories building came into my eyes.
It was Mireuk-Jeon. Mireuk means Maitreya in Korean.
As you know, Maitreya bodhisattva is a future Buddha who save the world in future and has a similar meaning of the savior as same as Christianity.
In Korea, Mireuk was very popular when people’s life was tough.
Ordinary people had tried to overcome difficulties with the hope of future with praying for Maitreya Buddha.
So, this big Mireuk-Jeon shows us the difficulties of the living at that times.
In my experience, 3 story wooden traditional architectures seemed not common.
Moreover, although it looked 3 stories, inside was 1 story building.
So,we could know that it needed a high technic to build this building.
Unlike stone structure, this wooden structure needed to endure the heavy weight of the building only with the woods.
I took photos of this building from various direction to help you understand the structure and the beauties of this building.
Each story has its own name as below.
It was regrettable that taking photos inside of this building was not permitted for the religious reason.
I managed to take inside from far away, so the photo was not clear.
But when you look inside of the building, you can realize the reason why they built 3 stories building.
The Maitreya Buddha among 3 statues in this building was as high as 3 stories building, so I could photography only the legs of statue through the front door.

Good to see these temples ... always very interesting. This is really majestic
It is a beautiful architectural design. So the reason for such a height for the the temple was to house the big statue inside @slowwalker it will also make the temple cooler by allowing it to get some fresh air inside especially when there are a lot of people inside so it is still a functional design still.
Was Jiddu Krishnamurti not Maitreya? I am sure he was!!!
Awesome images .. it must be a great experience ..

Oh, it's still the Keimsan-sa Temple!
@slowwalker, do you think that this kind of ancient architecture can be re-utilized for its historical uses today?
@slowwalker,
We all (Buddhist in Sri Lanka) have believes about Maitreya boddhisathwa! He will be the last Buddha of this Badra Kalpa! So, we all hope /wish to hear his dharma to find the Nirwana!
This building looks so beautiful and thanks to your photography skills, we can see the statue of Maitreya Bodhisattwa though that front door! Really appreciate your effort and the story shared with this article! Thank you!
Cheers~
I saw you post that is showing about Buddhist temple so I have any question. Are Korean people Buddhist or Christian or free?
