The Brick Pagoda in Sin Reuk Sa Temple, Yeo Ju City, Korea
Sin Reuk Sa could be called as the temple of pagodas.
There were lots of temples in Sin Reuk Sa, and interesting thing is the style of pagodas were various.
There was a tall pagoda on the hill by the river.
Crossing over the front yard of the temple, I walked to the temple.
The pagoda seemed to look down me on the hill.
As getting closer, I noticed the pagoda on the hill was piled with the bricks.
In Korean temple, the brick pagoda is not common.
The brick pagoda seemed to be built under the influence from the Chinese Buddhism.
But Korean temple looked to develope their unique pagoda style after accepting Buddhism from China.
More over, the brick pagoda in this temple was estimated to be built in Goryeo dynasty,
If this brick pagoda was built in Giryeo dynasty, it must be the unique example as the brick pagoda of Goryeo dynasty. But regrettably, it was uncertain when this pagoda was made.
If this pagoda was not made in Goryeo dynasty, this pagoda could’ve been built in Shilla dynasty.
It was written in the explanation board that this pagoda was reassembled in mid 18century. So specialist assumed its original appearance might’ve been changed.
It was tall and looked grandiose, but as getting closer, the style of piling looked like simple.
The impressive thing was there were stone marks on its 4 faces.
There must be written on the stone, but I could not read what was written due to the erosion.
What I could read was the directions on the lower part, east, west, south and north.

@slowwalker,
Are they stone bricks? Then this temple could be her for a long time! Uncommon but thanks to your visits, we could see it!
Cheers~
A mysterious pagoda, @slowwalker.
A brick pagoda is unusual and it seems to create a mystic atmosphere.
Judging by its location it seems to have served as a watchtower and the four cardinal directions engraved at its base lead credence to that possibility.
Your photos seemed to capture the shadowy moodiness of the monument and its setting.
Lovely photography today, my friend.

Wow the temples of pagoda? Amazing picture, Does this means that the Goryean empires were the only ones famous for building that kind of pagoda? Why couldn't the shilla build that kind of pagoda too?
@slowwalker, Absolutely very stunning brick pagoda placed on the hill. Outstanding scenery very nearest to river.
