The historic building
I've been walking around some areas with old, historic houses lately, and I've been really impressed by how amazing some of these buildings are.It makes me think about what life was like back when New Bedford, Massachusetts, was the whaling capital of the world and one of the richest cities on Earth.
Even though a lot has changed over time, I'm happy to see so many of these old houses are still standing and well taken care of.
Let me start with the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum, which is at 396 County Street.
It's a National Historic Landmark.The house was built in 1834 and is a Greek Revival whaling mansion.It's the only one in New England that's open to the public with all its original grounds still there.It shows 150 years of New Bedford's history through three important families.
There's also a lovely rose garden on the property, and I have to admit this is the only museum in New Bedford that I've visited so far.
