Look for wisdom: Wealth or wages can make life sweet, but better than either, finding a treasure. Ben Sira 40:18

The Book of Wisdom of Ben Sira teaches what men should seek and what they should avoid if they wish to be blessed and happy. For although happiness appears as a good in the eyes of man, it is a deceptive good, and many who relentlessly pursue it never end up finding it. And to resolve this spiritual problem, wisdom is subtly presented to men. Many self-help authors present themselves as teaching that values or virtues are the right path to well-being and happiness, but this reasoning is not entirely correct, because they forget that suffering is just around the corner. In a world where concealment strategies prevail, knowing how to make the right personal decisions becomes very difficult; the unpredictability of others comes into play, and that is where the problem of suffering arises.
And all this leads man to ask himself what is the most valuable thing. And this is something that cannot depend on luck or social position, because when a man ascends rapidly in society, he will most likely fall just as he ascended; the most valuable thing for a man, then, must be something that is achieved through personal effort and that, once obtained, is never lost, and this is related to the spiritual goods that come from God. And the Book of Proverbs says something very interesting: "Look for wisdom like silver. Search for it like hidden treasure. If you do this, you will understand what it means to respect the Lord, and you will come to know God" Proverbs 2:4-5.
Whoever finds wisdom as a hidden treasure and applies it in daily life with constancy can then overcome the problem of suffering, because wisdom is associated with God's guidance and the minimization of error, and thus inevitably, in the long run, find true happiness. This is why the master of wisdom Ben Sira taught in his sapiential book: "Wealth or wages can make life sweet, but better than either, finding a treasure" Ben Sira 40:18.
Finding money and riches is good, the wise man taught in his book, but there is nothing more valuable than finding that hidden treasure which is wisdom, a treasure that is within man's reach but must be sought with devotion and firmness.
