The Diary Game: Preparing My New Room Before Moving In [15/07/2026]

Hello great minds. Good evening everyone. ❤️

How are you all doing today? I hope your day went well. It's another beautiful day to be alive and I'm happy to be here once again to share another episode of my diary with my amazing online family. 😊

I hope you're all ready for today's little gist. It wasn't a day filled with big celebrations or anything extraordinary but it was a very important day for me because I took another step towards starting a new chapter of my life.

As some of you already know, I recently completed my NYSC. Since then I've been staying with my sister and her husband. They've really been supportive and I appreciate everything they've done for me. However, I felt it was time to get my own little space because the apartment is already tight and I don't want to continue inconveniencing them.

Thankfully, I was able to rent a room. It may not be the biggest room but it's my own space and I'm grateful to God for this opportunity. Before moving in, I wanted to make sure everything looked neat, so I invited a painter to repaint the room.

When I got there, the painter was already busy with the work. Seeing him painting the room made me happy because everything was beginning to look real. We talked for a while as he worked and I couldn't stop imagining how the room would look after arranging my belongings inside.

Moving into a new place comes with a lot of expenses. Sometimes people only see the finished room without knowing the amount of work that goes into preparing it. From painting to cleaning and fixing little things, everything requires money and patience.

After some time, the painter finally finished his work.

The paint was still fresh and the room had that strong smell that usually comes with newly painted walls. I couldn't touch the walls because they were still wet but I stood there for a few minutes just looking around.

Honestly, I felt happy.

This empty room may not look like much to some people but to me it represents growth. It reminds me that everyone starts somewhere and every big journey begins with a small step.

Since the painting was done, it was now my turn to do my own part.

I brought along a few things that I would need for cleaning.

I came with my travelling bag, buckets, broom, mop and a few other things. The floor still had paint stains and dust, so I wanted to clean everything before the paint became too dry on the tiles.

While arranging everything inside the room, something happened that made me smile.

NEPA brought light. 😂

Immediately I decided to confirm whether electricity was actually working inside the room. Since there was no bulb, I quickly went out and bought one.

I fixed the bulb and immediately switched it on.

Thankfully, it worked perfectly.

I won't lie, seeing that bulb come on gave me joy. It's funny how little things can make someone happy. The room immediately became brighter and I could see every corner properly.

After that, I decided to test the wall socket because I wanted somewhere to charge my phone.

Unfortunately, the socket wasn't working.

I tried it again just to be sure but still nothing happened.

Well, that's one more thing to add to my list. I'll have to call an electrician before moving in completely. Challenges like this are normal whenever you're preparing a new place, so I wasn't too worried.

I couldn't leave without taking my first picture inside my new room. 😄

Standing inside that room made me reflect on how far I've come.

Life hasn't been perfect and there have been many difficult moments but I'm grateful for every little progress.

Hopefully, one day I'll look back at this picture and smile because this was where another chapter of my journey started.

After taking the picture, I picked up my mop and started cleaning the floor.

There were paint stains, footprints and dust almost everywhere. I spent quite some time mopping because I wanted the room to look neat before leaving.

I actually enjoyed doing it because I knew I was cleaning my own place.

There's a different feeling that comes with working on something that belongs to you.

While cleaning, I became really thirsty.

I didn't come with food because I wasn't feeling hungry, so I bought sachet water instead.

I drank some and also gave the painter some water because the weather was quite hot.

Sometimes the simplest things bring the greatest relief.

Throughout the day I was also doing some work on my phone.

Since the wall socket wasn't working, my power bank became my only source of charging.

1000335199.jpgUsing my power bank to charge my phone.

I connected my phone and continued replying to messages while supervising the little work that was left.

After using the phone for a while, I noticed it was becoming hot.

So I removed the phone pouch to allow it cool down.

It's a small thing but I just felt like documenting every part of today because this day means a lot to me.

By the time I finished cleaning, the room looked much better than when I arrived.

Although there's still more work to do before moving in completely, I'm happy with the progress I made today.

I packed my things and headed back to my sister's house feeling satisfied.

Today's experience reminded me that progress doesn't always look flashy.

Sometimes progress is renting your first room.

Sometimes it's watching a painter finish his work.

Sometimes it's buying your first bulb.

Sometimes it's discovering a faulty socket.

Sometimes it's mopping an empty room while imagining the future.

No matter how small today's achievement may seem, I'm grateful because it's another step forward.

I pray that the next time I write about this room, it will be after I've finally moved in completely. 🙏

Thank you all for taking your time to read my diary today. I truly appreciate every visit, comment and support.

Till my next diary, do have a wonderful day and stay blessed. ❤️
